I DID AN OOPSIE LAST NIGHT!!!!!

Yesterday, I felt AWFUL! I'm feeling a little bit better today, but I think this cold is settling into my chest. Abby is over the hump and feeling better. Clayton didn't throw up anymore yesterday either. I guess his double-ended explosion at 4AM got it out of his system! So, he is back at school today. Oh, and his foot is healing up nicely! Still a little sore, but looks great considering....

ANYWAY..... I went down to the coop to let everyone out yesterday morning, in my jammies with coveralls over them... (it was windy, and they were thin!) I didn't go back down there until Hubby got home, and I had to feed..... still in my jammies.... Then, right at dark, I went down to get the eggs, count the heads, and shut the door. Well, I went down, counted everyone, got the eggs, shut the door behind me and came back to the house..... I woke up at about 3:00 thinking "Did I close the pop-door? I don't remember closing the pop door! Surely, I closed it... didn't I?" Well, I decided that if I hadn't, it was already too late to worry about it then. I got up at 6:30 to get the kids ready for school, got them on the bus at 7:25, looked out, and still didn't see any chickens...so I'm thinking "Ok, I really must have shut the door." So, I went and laid back down for a little while. Kelsey got up at about 9, and when I walked into the living room and looked out the window, there was Kahoots (my BCM roo) out in the yard..... I guess I didn't shut the door after all....

I did go check, and everyone is fine, and out scratching around! *shew!*
Here are my 2 bantam cochins... I'm still waiting on them to start laying, they were hatched in Sept.

HA! thats funny, I am always out in my nightgown, always keeping an eye down the road so as not to get caught out there like that.
And many times have I had to get out and even up from bed and check the door.....sometimes it IS open but most times shut.
Just really wanted to say your Cochins are beautiful! They look as soft and they just look calm and happy. I think Cochins are wonderful breed, they suit my needs and please my eye. So glad you sent the pics!

For some reason I can't open any of the links on here. I have windows 8 and have issues with a lot of stuff. Would like to see the duck bathtub. We have an old clawfoot that was left by the previous owner. Exciting weekend for us. We are picking up our Great Pyr mamma dog and pup, going to a farm equipment auction on Saturday, and meeting today with a local farmer to see about getting at least 2 Scottish Highland cattle. Setting eggs tomorrow morning for the Easter hatch-a-long. Cleaned out the storage barn yesterday. It was really bad after this winter. It is also the barn where the outside tribe of cats live and one of my brooders is in there. Spring weather today, but rain for the outdoor auction Saturday. We also have to get some fencing in and a kennel for the new dogs until they know this is home. Busy weekend. I'll need a large glass of tea when I am done!

A tired and happy Deb

Wow! Wish I was tagging along with you this weekend!!! I love everything about that itinerary...... take us with you????

Good morning my fellow Front Porchers. It's gonna be a beautiful day here at Oleo Acres. Gonna start out the day with Bee's advice, get rid of that soggy mess in the brooder and dump in straight shavings. Ohh, I can hardly wait for Charlie, Rose and Jane to pull their stuff this morning! <insert evil laugh here> My day will be busy too - maybe not as crammed full of good stuff as Deb's, but as soon as I've had my coffee I'm going to hang the heat lamp in the coop with a small fan to see if I can dry out some of the lingering dampness out from yesterday's rain/snow/rain/snow. Checked it before I went to bed last night - there were no leaks anywhere, despite not having shingles, fascia and soffits installed yet, but the air has that damp feeling to it and I can't see trying to prime it that way. So I figured since it's going to be halfway nice today, if I get that lamp out there early with the fan blowing it around it should be dry enough to prime by the time I get home. There's no straw or bedding of any kind - just the bare dirt floor, so I'm not too worried about leaving that stuff running for a bit. Ken will be home from Sheridan early Saturday afternoon and we'll be finishing up the coop! (Tarzan thump and yell!)

I'm taking Jenny, Katie, and Kendra to Cody today. The girls have appointments with their pediatrician and while we're up there I need to pick up some bucket nipples. I know where I saw some! Gonna buy a few of them and stick two into an ice cream bucket I have on the back porch. Let you know how it goes! Sometime today I also need to get my column turned into the newspaper before I get fired. Haven't had one in all month, and I'm supposed to do one every two weeks. Fortunately Dave (paper's owner and editor) and Ken are good friends and Lodge brothers, so I probably get by with more than I should! Teehee!

Hey, I've been meaning to ask...some of you have some really cute emoticons that I can't find. Help?

So glad you are taking your brooder back from the hoard!!!

For free emoticons you can do a Google and type in free emoticons or smileys and you'll find many sites that have them...I just bookmark the site and draw from it when I need to.

How are you today??

Yes....how is everyone doing today? Getting over the wuzwells?

Absolutely! Dee-lighted to have you! Some of us are relegated to overturned buckets, and we have a rail sitter or two. So pull up whatever you can find.

Blooie, your family looks like nothing but FUN,FUN,FUN, Thanks for sharing the pics and of course the story!
My family IS nothing but fun, and that's the unvarnished truth of it! For Christmas three years ago Lori gave Ron a license plate, fitted neatly into a piece of rugged driftwood that looked remarkably like a car bumper. I'll tell you THAT story at a later date - remind me though.

See, that's one of the perks of living as long as I have. In my 20's, 30's and 40's I would never have DREAMED of even going out to get the newspaper in my jam-jams. It just wasn't done! One was sure do to draw stares and gossip if one even entertained the idea! Now I go out in my jams-jams just because I can! The only "talk" that might result from such a foray at my age is, "Oh, look! Today her pajama top and bottom match! She must have got her laundry done!"

To the Front Porch!!!

Now, can I help it if I'd had such an entertaining life?

That's the mark of a true farming woman, to me. If you see her out in her yard with gum boots and her nightgown, with a farm jacket over it, that's a woman who is totally FREE. That's me. My mother wouldn't get caught dead doing that and often teases me about taking a picture of me when I'm dressed like that..... I always figure if someone is looking, they get exactly what they deserve for bein' so nosy!

Well, awhile back we had an old cow [20 yrs old] that had a calf and she never got up..my husband was away and I put him in the bathroom [of course] then in a few days I put him in the horse trailer at night and fed him with a bottle.
Everyday I'd put him back out with Mama in the sun, she would lick it and it knew it was her baby.
Long story short...I would go out there couple times a night at dark thirty in just as you described, nightgown, boots, jacket, big ol bottle in one hand and a pistol in the other!! What a scarey sight that would have been for any snoopers!!!!

ep.gif
I am a scaredy cat at night.....course I imagine I would have scared anything off with they way I looked!
End of story except he [the calf] grew up to be a gorgeous bull, I had to sell him though he followed me everywhere and when he got big and no longer needed a bottle he wasn't willing to accept that and would hook my legs...forgot to say he was a LONGHORN bull.
