Bahahahahaha. Good to see. We don't have them down here in Louisiana

Ooh, your poor sister!  And your poor backside!  Sorry I'm being a little flip, but that was FUNNY!  :lau   I'll bet your mom's heart stopped when she saw your sister hit the ground.

Little sisters and brothers seem to be able to bring out the worst in us!  I seem to recall a meal or two where I didn't want to sit there long enough for everyone to finish eating myself, and it usually did involve Linda, Lori, Ron or Bev somehow!!  But Dad really surprised me on this one - I thought for sure I'd end up with a little hand to butt communication when he got home.

Lol, "hand to butt communication"! Yes, one of the most memorable spanking related lessons my Daddy ever taught me was the time he DIDN'T tan my hide with his belt...

Daddy was a Kentucky hillbilly; born in a cabin up a holler, no electricity or running water, only ate what they grew or killed. He was handsome and charming, with the ability to make a little girl feel like the most special and loved child ever. With an adult's perspective this tremendously biased Daddy's girl can admit that he was also a volatile brawler at times and a hard drinker...that kind of went with the culture and the times. He also had a rock solid moral code (though, like most hillbillies, he excersized a sort of "moral relativism"). In keeping with his morality, you knew he meant business when he did let you know you were headed for trouble with your behavior.

I can actually only think of one time that I earned his belt, but there were two spankings that time...one for whatever the first offense was, I don't recall, the second was for trying to run away from my rightful punishment of the first one. My father had been a coal miner, a crop duster in an open bi-plane, and a smoker; his lungs were shot by the time I could remember and, in my six year old wisdom, I figured I could outrun him.

The time he didn't spank me was when I did a large plumber's bill worth of damage throughout the house. I had just learned how to fold paper ships and I made and "sank" fleets in the toilets. When one fleet of ships would start to get waterlogged, it seemed logical to create a devestating storm by flushing.

Daddy got home from work and lined us kids up in descending order to question us about the plumbing. Of course, my brother and two sisters knew it was my fault and were gloating and smirking in anticipation of seeing me "get it". I spoiled their fun when I confessed immediately and apologized. Well, Daddy pulled me on his lap and told me how proud he was of me for telling the truth even though I knew I'd be punished. He said he wanted me to always remember how important it is to tell the truth so, he was going to reward the truth by not whipping me :)

Okay, back to catching up on all of you amazing ladies on this thread...

My older hens just flat out refused to use either the red nipples or this nipple cup, no matter what.  I even penned them for several days with this as the only water source...but since their feed is wet, they weren't suffering much and just wouldn't use them.  I tried using BOSS in the cup to encourage pecking, etc.  Nothing.  I'd trigger it to put water in there and then come back to find they had drank it dry but never once triggered the nipple.

But...when I got that first pen of cheap meats they learned how to use it in seconds!  Same with the second pen of cheap meats and none of those birds were on nipple waterers from whence they came.  Go figure.

It's worth a shot to try this.  Let them see and hear you ticking that nipple lever....do it before you feed so they are interested in what you are doing and get to see the water right after you tick the nipple.  That's how I did it with the meat roosters.

Thanks, Bee. When I get my batch of new chicks in May I'll have to give it another go and see if I can't get the youngin's to start using the cups.

That sounds great. About time huh? :) I always love it when spring rolls in!

It was beautiful here today ! Sunshine and 56 F - the chickens were out in full foraging force and I could feel the heat of the sun on my face every time I would face it :)

Anybody got vacation plans this spring?  We've got a mini vaca for trout fishing planned in May with my boys, their others and the Bat and that's about as wild as we get.  I know Blooie is going on a cruise~without US  :smack ~so what about the rest of youin's?  :pop

We're heading to Cuba for a week on April 8th - it will be a nice break from all the winter we had this year ! We'll also be heading to Maine and New Hampshire and possibly Vermont sometime in July.

I love that story! I think when you tell folks about how you got whippin's when you were growing up today's society tends to cringe and think you were abused but they just don't realize that it was discipline and not abuse(there is a distinct difference), the Bible advocates the use of the rod to discipline children and folks back in those days were serious about obeying the Lord(as I was and am also) and larger families necessitated staying on top of disciplinary issues.

It has been raining cats and dogs all day here and it's one of those rains that send warm tingles down your spine and makes ya wanna curl up under a blanket....which I did..and took a nap. It was lovely! I LOVE days like this and thank the Lord for a dry shelter, a warm fire and the early spring rain!

OK - missed 5 days due to hubby being here and packing a big U-Haul full of stuff to take to Wisconsin. It took me only a day and a half to catch up ...
Now I have to go and clean the house - more straighten it up, I don't have time to do too much cleaning. There is a possibility of someone coming to look at our house tomorrow afternoon. I hope they like it and I can move to Wisconsin real soon.
Things are looking real good and progressing nicely for the purchase of the home in Wisconsin: all the inspections passed and the survey is being done. It won't be long before we have two mortgages ...

Gotta get this house sold quick.
There are three other houses in the neighborhood that are on the market. Not sure what to think on that. Four house listings may mean more people would be willing to come out to look, but it also means competition. One other house has the same realtor as us, he is holding both of our open houses on the same day. I would like it better if he would have them on separate days, it seems like it would be twice the exposure that way.

Welcome to the newbies, prayers sent out for those in need, feel better you sicko's and there is a hot peach cobbler on the table in the corner.

I mixed a batch of chocolate chip oatmeal a couple of weeks ago. And I have them portioned out and in the freezer. It is so easy that way to just pullout a dozen dough balls, plop them on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet and pop them in the oven. Pull them out of the oven when done, put them on a plate, toss the parchment paper and put the cookie sheet back in the cabinet. No fuss, no muss, viola! fresh cookies. and the house smells yummy.

Doesn't look like I will get to go to church tomorrow. I love my little country church and I will really miss the sweet fellowship tomorrow but I still don't feel good and I don't want to share this stuff with the little elderly people there. Hugging is a very big thing at our church. Lots of love is shown there. Hope they have a good service and hopefully I will get to go Wednesday evening.
