The Front Porch Swing

It is beautiful here tonight. I just came back from the barn. The sky is clear and full of stars. Peepers are singing at the top of their little tiny lungs. I was taking clothes off the line this afternoon; the turkeys calling on the turkey preserve made me smile. The horses have started shedding and when they roll in the pasture they leave a big white patch of hair behind. Somebody's cat had kittens in my barn. The moma is wild! When I go in the barn she goes out the back lickety split. I have not played with the kitties since I want them to stay wild. AND my hens have finally started laying regularly! My son is coming to visit in two weeks. I haven't seen him in two years..... Life is good

Welcome, seems like you may have a lot of good advice to give!
I honestly don't know what I said/did to deserve this PM. I know I have never said chickens can't fly. In fact I was concerned about them getting over my fence and out into the street or into my neighbours yard. I don't need this kind of treatment. I have enough in my life right now that I have to deal with.

I've enjoyed hanging out here with you ladies. You have been so nice. I'm saying goodbye though. This time I won't be back. If you would like to keep in touch just send me a PM and I will share my email address with you.

Okay, going to put this blunt because that is who I am and I like you. You can read a LOT on chickens, but to give advice without actually owning any is kind of "uncool". When I first got mine, I did the same! In reality, I can read EVERY post on this thread and get ideas, but until I actually apply them, I should not give advice, learned that the hard way.

I KNOW you are trying to help, like I said, I think you are good peeps! But reading and applying are two really different things. That would be like me reading up on cycling, never doing it and giving advice to new comers.

Please, please, please take this for what it is. I am the person that always puts my foot in my mouth, but I honestly mean the best when I do it.

PS I DO NOT think you should stop posting, I love your post! But maybe start with "I read that..." you have been on the forum for a while so people my see that and think you have applied your advice. Such as chickens not flying, my guys can clear a 8 ft fence, not saying they can fly, but they can cross any boundary if they really want unless there is a top covering. Would hate for someone to lose chickens, thinking they can not fly.

Och! I did it in a PM so it would not be public, and as far as the rules, this is against them. However, I will not flag. Not even sure how to respond. You are giving advice an multiple forums with out applying it, you have never said "this is what I read". Wow, I really did not think this would be the response. I wish you the best of luck.

My chickens don't fly over my fence. Maybe they will but they haven't yet. Had em since thanksgiving.

Heavenly Father, I pray for peace and understanding on our Front Porch thread. Please help us to understand one another and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive the trespasses of others. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Some of My bantams were realllly good fliers.... Roosted on top of the AC on the spare room.... about fifteen feet up.

Well they are birds after all. :cd. I'm not quite sure what this chicken is doing but...mine will fly across the yard, getting all of about 6 inches off the ground. Mostly running and flapping their wings which causes them to rise a bit off the ground. But that's all. I think they are lazy. :)
