Raining lots and greening up FAST around here! So glad for the rain but wish I had finished hilling up my garden rows and getting my clover seed planted in the pathways before this hit...darn sloth!

I thank God for the rains and the greening of spring, for the bird song like a balm to my soul, for the end of winter and the new baby animals. I thank Jesus for dying for my sin most of all...there are no words sufficient for that kind of wonderment, and I thank Him that He brought all these most excellent visitors to The Porch, for comfort and for laughter. Even if they are just brushing off a fly and you are standing innocently by, the horn can knock into you before you realize you were even in range." He can't wait to get this new job settled and get them to give him some idea what days off he can depend upon.

Tomtomsmom, I'm so glad you have Amelia home...what a blessing that she is fine now and starting her new life inside the family structure. Can't beat that!

I've always been heavy too, but at my heaviest now. It seems like I am always trying to lose weight but consistently gaining LOL. Something wrong with that picture. I was thinnest when I got married in '84 now 70 lbs heavier. Finally in my old age I have decided to base my desired weight on how I feel. If I am pain free, blood sugar and blood pressure ok, and enjoying life then that is my perfect weight. Right now I am having problems with back and knees so I know I need to drop some weight. I don't give a rats back side about if I look good in a bikini.... I don't. I have decided to be true to myself. Enjoy what I enjoy, dress the way I am comfortable, and be as good a person as I can be. No matter what other people say or think. I am also a nurse, so I advise everyone to please be careful with weight loss plans, but do what you are comfortable with. I personally stay away from new drugs and procedures my self, I think another nurse mentioned that back a few posts ago. I'm sorry I can't remember who it was.
I am convinced that there is a chemical or biological basis for weight. I was on wellbutrin a few years ago for depression after my dad died. I lost weight with out changing anything in fact probably eating a lot more comfort food that I should have. As soon as I went off the med I slowly gained it all back. Good luck to all of you trying to lose weight. Please don't measure yourself by others opinions of you and societies odd standards, do what is best for you.

talk to different surgeons and make sure you find the right doctor and the right procedure. I'm in the healthcare field and hadn't considered surgery until I started reading about newer procedures. Ten years is new so there is a track record but I am almost opposite of you in that I wouldn't consider the bypass procedures as too drastic and I refused to have a.foreign body implanted .

The advances they have made in bariatric surgery are amazing. Good luck to you in whatever you decide. One place I found informative was.obesityhelp.com.

Sorry, dpenning, I'm totally against bariatric surgery. I had stomach stapling back in '84 and it was botched so much that I couldn't eat solids for 6 yrs. They had to go back in and open that 19" incision 3 more times to TRY to correct. The last time, to save my life, my newer better DR was able to partially undo it. I can eat almost normally now. Gained my weight back but I lived. My two daughters Aimee and Brandi both had the newer better one. Both have had a LOT of problems. Aimee worked at a local hospital and was the coordinator for bariatric patients and the hospital. She said it was scary how much trouble people get in that's never stated in the instructions. I consider the LapBand procedure a different option altogether. Safer and undoable. (not a word i know)

Me too...! I need to lose at least 100 lbs (doctors would say I need to lose about 160 lbs). My weight hasn't bothered me too much until last year when I started having all kinds of joint trouble. First I got bursitis in my hip. Let me tell you, THAT was the absolute worst pain I have ever had! I am not a cray baby but that had me in tears several times. It hurt so bad I could barely walk and seriously considered crawling. It lasted about three months and a big part of that time I was using a walker to keep from putting any weight on that leg. One morning it hurt so bad I couldn't roll over to get out of bed. I laid there for I don't know how long just trying to get up. When I finally got up I slept in the recliner for about two weeks. Finally got over that then tore something in my knee of the same leg. Hobbled around with that, using the walker again. Finally got to where I could get around fairly well then hurt my foot on the same side. It hurt so bad I thought I had broke it. Drag out the walker again. Now my feet and knees hurt most of the time and some days I want to sit down and just not get up! Ibuprofen has become another food group! I have got to lose it or else!!!

I felt as if someone had kicked me in the gut.... Dull Achy feeling and nausious.... I had to wean myself off it Periodically. I learned to load up either a few hours before necessary activity or a day before.

Then I found Aleve..... its got the same warnings as Ibuprophin, and yes even Celebrex. But its over the counter and again I take it only when I anticipate the need. But It is almost as good as Celebrex. And I can take the "recommended" dose with Aleve and have pain relief similar to 3 grams of Ibuprophin.

We have been having "winter driving conditions" for the last couple of days. The interstate is closed so I am stuck home again. At least I am safe and warm.

Oh, yeah, lbjearn (sorry I spelled that wrong), glad to hear you are safe. Sorry that job opportunity didn't work as planned, but glad that you had the opportunity and were able to learn how strong you are. Never a failure, always a learning experience.

Same here! I took Ibuprofen for years and it really helped but I was getting to the point I was taking the maximum allowable dose each day, every day. Then I became nephrotoxic on it and now can't even take one pill of it or will get the urinary symptoms. They always warn about the liver on these types of meds but never warn you about your kidneys. Need to protect those, folks.

Now I take Aleve and though it doesn't work all the time, I can combine it with castor oil topically and often get through the bad days a lot better.
