Yesterday when I was dressing (or undressing lol) the rooster some man stopped by looking for his dog. I don't know if he will ever stop here again- a crazy woman, bloody with a knife in hand. LOL

Sorry, black humour because I'm off to the vets with a sick hen. Makes one a bit grim and grumpy.
Me too! Such a neat ending to this life...no box, no burial, no obituary....just there and then "no more" here on Earth.![]()
What will that do? I'm talking about a 2 1/2 foot by 1 foot pen, that is inhabited by a scratching broody hen.You need to read about deep litter, my dear! It will save you a lot of time in your life and make for a healthier life for your chickens. Another good read is about fermented feed, another time, money and life saver for your flock. All those chores will just melt away into the past and you'll wonder why in the world hadn't you heard of these sooner?

When my Dad died we had a nice service from him. Visitation the night before. Nice service. About 100 people came. He had a lot of friends but so many had already died. Now, when Mama went she wanted nothing like that. No big service. No laying out and viewing. Nada. She wanted to be buried on her side in her nightgown just like she slept. Just a graveside service. No notice in the paper. Under 10 people came. Just family. That's what she wanted. And you know, I think that is what I want too. I don't keep up with a lot of co workers from my job (retired 4 yrs ago). Just a few friends and family and the preacher. Peaceful.![]()

Fermented feed. What are the benefits of doing that? How does it help with post-rain nastiness?
