The Front Porch Swing

I've taken steps to secure the say so in Mom's death and burial...also in Dad's, as she has made me and one other sibling MPA and DPA, and I've also encouraged her to speak of her wishes to my siblings. I've seen these things so very often where the absentee~and very guilty feeling~family try to make up for lost time with a parent by insisting on a large funeral and things their parent would never want. Happens all the time.

A person should get to live, die and be buried the way they wish if at all possible and if it doesn't cause undue financial or emotional hardship on others. Mom has taken steps to prepay all her expenses and Dad's as well. Knowing my family, I think they will just be relieved to not have to do anything but show up and look sad.

I love this thread.....we really do talk about anything and everything here :) .

When I die I don't want my body to be embalmed or buried or burned. There is a forensic course at a college in VA (I think) where you can donate your body to science. The course is dedicated to studying decomposing bodies, using the findings to solve murders. I like to think my body can be used to help solve at least one murder of an abused woman.

I really need to get my will written and my son appointed administrator of my estate. He will do what I want done. My mother says she IS going to make sure I am buried. (This is not the first thing we have butted heads on.......)

I don't know about VA, but at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, there is what is referred to as the "Body Farm", where bodies are placed in various circumstance and conditions to determine forensic features for such conditions to be used in forensic cases....just an FYI.

Absolutely donate my body to science. If science doesn't want my body, cremate it and immediately dump the ashes any old place. No service ... I don't have any family that would come. All they care about is my Fidelity account. So I am torn between signing someone else up for that or letting them claw each other apart to get to it first

Whew I thought the Indiana thread moved fast sometimes! :)

IU med school has a satellite program at Purdue that shares space in the veterinary school. My vet tech class had a chance to check out one of their anatomy labs one time, very interesting!

We aren't quite 30 yet but DH and I have talked about our final wishes quite a bit. Seems like there's better things to invest money in than a big fancy funeral.

I vote giving it away to charity, then they can all be mad together!

That's it!!!!! Thank you.....I was having a blonde moment and couldn't remember.

I got the idea from Patricia Cornwell's book.

Oooooo. Love Patricia Cornwell! I even totally buy into her Jack the Ripper theory, though most people think it is so far fetched.

And "eco burial" has a nice sound.

Re my hen I had to take to vets. Not so good. Fluid in lungs, fluid in abdomen, so vet thought heart or liver failure. Gave her a big shot of morphine and I took her home and tucked her into her usual place in the coop. Probably wont last the night, laboured breathing, but she didn't look in too much pain.

What makes me sad about it is that she's only two. And also her best hen friend in the flock actually has no other friends, so tomorrow will be a tough day for that one.
