The Front Porch Swing

Just saw Linda. She's awake and talking - well, whispering - and handled this morning's dialysis well. She said, "Hold my hand." When I could finally see her hand through my tears, I took it.

There was a little half smile. "You held my hand the whole time and I didn't let go." A little pause while she took a breath. "I knew if I let go you'd come and find me."

Thank you God, for Linda and for my amazing family. I am in no hurry to leave this Earth - I don't want to miss one precious moment with them. And thank you, my new found friends, for the prayers and support.

And I know you posted the woodwork for Bruce. Is it okay if I peeked too? WOW!

Love you Blooie.

Stay safe and be there for her.

I know. I hate being soft if it means an animal is suffering ... but  :/

Leslie, I had a CX that was having leg trouble. I was about to cull him but after a little over a week or so his legs straightened up and now I don't even know which one he was. They are ALL running jumping and flying all over the place - literally. That chick was so bad that it would have to flap its wings and hobble real quiick to where it was going and fall over. I have a feeling the ff fixed him up. Don't give up too soon.

When I first saw a picture of the fireplace in the living room I asked DH if he thought we could put an insert into it. Don't get me wrong, I love fireplaces, but they are such a big hole in the house for losing heat. We have 2 woodstoves in our place here in WY, and we heat almost 80% with wood all winter. When the home inspector went through the place he found a couple of defects in the fireplace, said it would be safe for a small, ambience type fire every once in a while, but with the broken firebrick that big, sustained fires were probably not a good idea. DH told him that the wife wanted to install an insert and he said that was perfect. I am thinking wood pellet, since the new house is in Wisconsin and hardwood pellets are easily found.
Our 25 acres is all pasture land, with just a few oaks and fir trees by the house, so not any firewood to cut around the place. We will probably use some wood stoves to heat the other buildings as needed, since we won't be living in them, occasional heat is probably all we need.

Hi
I would like to pull up a chair and join you on the porch. I have spent many hours on the front porch swing growing up and boy do I miss it! I"m from New Mexico. I just got 5 beautiful 2 month old Barred Rocks. These are my first little chicks. My grandmother and aunts had chickens so I grew up with chickens when I was young, but I have never had any of my own. I have always loved them and decided to have a backyard farm. I have 3 dogs and a horse now I have 5 little chicks.

I was just sitting here in the sunshine enjoying the day and letting my CX free range and I heard this loud "bird" commotion behind me that was way too close for comfort. I turned around and there was a Cooper's Hawk headed right for me and the CX flying low. BUT the racket I heard was another bigger bird right on his tail intercepting him! So cool! Not sure but it was either a Turkey Vulture or a Crow. I believe it was a Crow. They sent him packin! Thank you big bird. LOL

That ascites hen looks pretty normal now. Except her belly looks kinda lumpy. She's drinking pedialyte and nibbling some oats. I put clean straw down in her coop and I might just put her back there tonight. Appreciate the links, positive thoughts, and encouragement. I assume this is something that will recur and I'll have to treat every once in a while?

Happy to hear about Linda's progress, Blooie. She seems the sweetest woman.
