The Front Porch Swing

My Mothers Day was good.  Ours is a small family.   Grandma born in 1916, Mom born in 1934, Me born in 1955, My Son born in 1989.  My Dad passed in 1999, My Grandpa passed in 2000.  I never married.

Usually I get only a card from my son which was fine....  But that morning he announced that he had forgotten...  So he went with me to moms house to pick mom up for the day.  She haddnt gotten cards yet either...  So I told My son he needed to get cards too...  I was thinking of mom and grandma.  He begrudgingly went in to Walgreens with mom.  Ats my Boy...  All 24 years old of him.

So with Grandma 97 and Mom 80, going out to eat is a logistical nightmare. It was up to me to cook dinner.  As I always do now...  So Mom requested Steaks and Grandma whole heartedly agreed.  So Steaks, Baked Potatoes (microwaved sooo simple) and a big salad.  All incredibly easy to do.

Mom has to have hers well done, Grandma likes medium, and My son will eat only low fat, and I love mine hot but rare.  Dang I did my best but when the complaints came in Moms was too bloody Grandmas was too tough....  My son Admonished them to the fact that I was the one that did all the work of cooking....  in unison they said thankyou and traded steaks.    Bwhaahahaha.

After My son Took mom home for me I went to take my afternoon nap.  I have to lay down for a couple of hours in the afternoon to let the swelling go out of my lower legs.  I dont do dishes till after my nap sometimes not till late at night.

So later on that evening I was playing a game on the computer....  My back is to the diningroom and kitchen.  The whole room is about 16 x 14 and we have two computer stations and a TV worked in as well.  So I am sitting there and I hear Scrape Scrape....  Chink Chink.  I turn and my son isnt at his computer.....

I asked without moving from my game.... "Whatcha doing in there???"
He askde back... "How much do you clean off the dish before putting it in the dishwasher....?"
Hmmm I thought...  hoped...."just the big bits I only rinse sticky stuff off...."  I turned around and he was loading the dishwasher....

OH my GAWD....  He has NEVER done this.  He was handling each dish with thumb and forefinger....  and wiping them off with paper towels....   He finally said...  "happy Mothers day mom..."

Mr Clean freak had to dig down deep in order to accomplish this....  How he was ever spawned by me I will never know....  But it was a wonderful Mothers day gift to be sure.

That's a neat story. And the best present. Somebody just thinking about you, your feelings, your workload, and trying to make it a little easier. The best.

My worst Blooie is people saying why dont I go back home. I felt like there was not much keeping me there and a promise to follow my husband when ever that time came finally came. People here think americans are all wealthy. Well some are but im not and most folks I know never will be. We kept our head bobbing above water for way too many years and when I came here I felt we could shove off the worldly life and live a simple life. Where you reap what you sow and folks around you are family who all pitch in and help you through the hard times.
Going back is not my option. I cant survive there on a pension. My kids might choose to go back or stay and it will break my heart but im beginning to feel its all planned. Being here alone is hard. Weve been married 27 yrs and yes my gut tells me I will follow in the last 5 generations of women in our family and spend 20 yrs alone so maybe Gods prepping me...I just wanted a bit of security before I was alone. Im trying to see the reasoning in things cause we dont always understand the larger picture. Working on that change of life for women in the midst of everything else.
Just finished reading Heaven is Real and it left me with a few questions. Its not that I dont believe the story I had a bestfriend nearly killed when I wss 19 said she died and came back. I hope that my son was met by loved ones and the 7 babies I lost are waiting with my firstborn grandson who died in my arms but there are things that I question about stories like these of people of different faiths or no faith.
Most people give you a funny look when I tell them my daughter sees spirits. She has since she was little and we had some interesting events happen that keeps me wondering what is on the other side of death.
my sil died a month after we came and it came to us suddenly. I took my daughter with me and she was very uncomfortable at the prayer gathering. My nieces kept passing out and my daughter pulled me aside and said momma there is a dark spirit choking them. I told the girls in private to stop grieving and start reciting prayers cause a dark spirit was in joy among their sorrow. They straightened up and my daughter told me he left. When my son died I told them I didnt want no grief for the same reason it drew darkness. Plus we should celebrate him going home.

Belated Happy Mother's Day to all.

Deb, what a wonderful story. You have a good boy on your hands!

By the way, 1955 was a very good year--I was born in September.

Deb, It sounds like you had a great day!!
Mine started off with waking up and fixing my own breakfast

I am the early bird in the house, and I have to eat right away, so breakfast in bed will never happen for me. I then went down to start cleaning our basement family room. I had been putting it off for so long because I refused to mop down there until we no longer were using the wood stove. I have cleaned the floor too many times down there just for it to get dirtied up again when wood is brought in and put in the rack. My youngest, 3, came down and I made some breakfast for him. His middle name is "I want something to eat". About an hour later my DH and oldest son (6) came down and asked what I wanted to do for mother's day. I had wanted to go to the zoo, but we have a hard time leaving home. Not a bad problem, really. I decided that if we all chipped in we could get the family room clean fast. After that we could go get some lunch at Bojangles (I have a thing for their fries) and then hit the feed store as a family. We got the feed and I found sweet mint for my tea and basil for my caprese salad. We came home with the intention to work together to get the siding on my little coop but realized the grass needed mowing before the 5 days of rain ahead. That's a 2-4 hour ordeal, so my husband went to work while I planted my new herbs. Then I sat around and did literally nothing while watching my boys play. Best day in a long time. No rush to do anything, nothing else I "should" be doing. As I sit here, finishing up my work day, there is a stack of dishes ten feet tall in the sink and probably not a single clean fork in the drawer. I know what my evening will consist of!!

ETA:I have NO idea on what I did to make my text highlighted in green!!

You were the only one who said you thought Florabelle looked more roo to you and suggested that I post again in a couple of weeks. Well, here ya go...looking more and more like you wuz right!

Yeah, that too!

And welcome Beth! I think it's probably safe to sit on the bucket with the turtle - by now he's probably turned to dust. Hey, that reminds me of a Ma thing....shall I share? No? Well too bad, gonna anyway!

Ma loved a neat clean house. But 5 kids and a heart condition didn't make it easy. Ma was old school - I think I mentioned once that when someone would pull up for an unexpected visit she'd drag out the vacuum, a dust rag, or something, and then tell the visitors she was glad they were there, she needed to take a coffee break and they gave her the perfect excuse.

One day she walked into the kitchen where I was doing dishes and dropped her dust cloth on the table. I wiped my hands and poured her a cup of coffee, then sat down with her for a minute. She had a look she'd get on her face sometimes...we called it her, "The hell with it all" look. So I said, "Ma, you okay? You look a little frazzled."

She took a big sip of her coffee and said, "Well, I got the vacuuming done and the last of the laundry put away." She sighed. "I started the dusting, but then I got to thinking about what the Good Book says."

I must have looked as confused as I felt, because she winked at me.

"Bible says we came from dust, and we shall return to dust. That means there's a lot of people coming or going in my living room and just for today I'm leaving them alone."
