The Front Porch Swing

Absolutely nothing to do with chickens but I came across this funny today. It really made me laugh.

hilarious!!!

Pull up a bucket and pour some tea. Got a little story to tell ya. Katie came home from school and told us her teacher thought she had taken a pencil from another little girl. She wasn't one bit upset about it, but she said at first she was embarrassed because the other kids knew Annie was mad at Katie. They got it all straightened out, and her teacher was awesome about it. Katie told her she didn't take the pencil, so the teacher called both girls out into the hall, got to the bottom of what happened, then took them back in and said "Isn't it silly how we sometimes see things differently? I made a mistake and I'm sorry. Annie dropped her pencil when she stood up for recess, and Katie picked it up to give back to her when we came back in. Aren't we lucky to have people in our class to help us? Thank you, Katie." Then she let Katie and Annie sit together for the rest of the day and they even got to work on their art projects together. What a great way to acknowledge that a mistake was made. Katie was so matter of fact when she was telling us about it.

Now I wasn't that lucky when I was in school, but I got even. I remember when I was a sophomore being accused of cheating on a math test. It was no big secret that when it came to math I was, um, challenged. (To this day my family hates playing cribbage with me because I have to count the dots on the cards to find the 15's!) I got a B on that test, and I didn't cheat. I just got lucky and 8 out of my 10 guesses were right. But the teacher called me on it in front of the entire class and no amount of tears or protests would clear my name. Naturally Math was the first class of the day and by the end of that day I was stumbling through, crying most of the time while the other kids called me all kinds of names, making horrible jokes and the other teachers looked at me like they expected me to sprout horns. I was never a popular kid to start with and the whole thing just isolated me more. From then on Mr. Graves made me take all of my math tests sitting in a chair next to his desk, facing the rest of the class. I repeat, I didn't cheat....

I saw him many years later at a gas station. I looked at him and said, "Mr. Graves, do you remember me? I'm Diane ***** and you once accused me of cheating on a math test." He looked down his long nose at me and replied, "I remember, and if I accused you then you obviously cheated." How do you fight that?

I'm very ashamed of what I did in response. He had been in the process of writing out his check to pay for his gas when this exchange took place. So I smiled at him and said, "You'll never know for sure though, will you?" Then I looked at the clerk and said, "Mr. Graves has bounced the last five checks he's cashed at my liquor store. You might want to verify this one." Then I left.
I love it when people can think that fast on their feet! Me, I never can.

Seems like we all have stories to tell of hardships. Its good to know most folks come out ok in the end regardless of what life tosses them. I was doing chicken math yesterday and spent most of the last cash I had left making a nice day for my daughters 21st birthday. Didnt get to do something we wanted but in the end it was a good day. I spent the money in the morning cause a man was on his way to the bank to make a deposit to our account but there was some problem so im outta money til he can get it figured out on Sunday when the bank reopens. But I got food and gas so pray I have no medical emergency til then. Gonna get out for a bit. Take care all.

Is this May or October??!!! Woke up this morn with FROST on the chicken coop roof! None on the cars or grass, but still, FROST??!! 37 degrees here. Mon and Tues it was 85 hi and 72 low. Had fans going at nite to cool us. And lazy gardener, we almost built a fire last nite!!

Right now the sun is shining, but we have more rain moving in and only a hi of 57. That is what it was yesterday. Had the heat on in the car. If I'm home all day today, I MIGHT have to build a fire in the fireplace!

We built the fire but did not have the frost, thank goodness. Will be setting out the last of the plants into the garden today and the temps are supposed to go even lower (40s still, supposedly) in a few days. It's a beautiful, gorgeous, scintillating day!
