The Front Porch Swing

I *think* I am doing true DL. Rake it every morning to mix the new 'deposits' in, add new shavings now and again, pull it out once a year. But that stuff was SO soaked, it needed to come out.

I have had the most devastating news this morning. My youngest daughter is three months along in pregnancy. Her ultra sound done yesterday shows the baby is alive with normal development; however the child has no brain.....

It is hard to see the keyboard while crying uncontrolably.

Please pray for her......her name is Brandi......she is going to be faced with some horrible decisions in her near future.
I've been sitting here with tears rolling down my cheeks. Words are worthless things when I can't think of two of them to put together to help someone I care about through a crisis. But then again that's not my job - I'm not qualified and the One who is will be your comfort. Neural tube defects are one of the most common issues in early pregnancy and so little is known about them, but one thing is certain - it's a devastating thing to hear.

Your family will most definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. This is one of those almost impossible times when our job is to be strong for our kids. You got this, Enola. You are strong and compassionate, and she'll need to sap every bit of it from you for a while. In the meantime we'll be here for you. I'm gonna tell you what I told Linda.....do you feel me holding your hand? Don't let go! No matter what happens, don't you let go of it!!

Well, the Lord does work in mysterious ways! Can you think of anything teen-aged girls like to ooooh and awwww over more than tiny little furry creatures? Sounds to me like the postman was the delivery man for the Good Lord "hatching" a plan to help you over the rough spots of the next couple of weeks. So be honest with her - tell her you are SO glad she's there because with the chickens you already have, the new ones coming, and now these quail, you really could use her help. Send her to the quail forums and turn those little dudes over to her. Let her know they have become "hers" and you trust her with them completely. Then you can use that as a stepping off point for how difficult it can be to parent....how decisions made are easy but living with the consequences is the tough part, loving and caring are full time jobs...you get the idea. And she'll just adore the little stinkers. Worth a shot, and seems like a win-win-win! You win because you can use the help, she wins because she'll be busy from day one, and the quail win because they have someone's undivided attention!

I know, I know....back in the corner, Blooie. <sigh>
Blooie you are soo much more fun when you are not in a corner...I'll sneak you some goodies til they let you back out to play. That's what my sisters and I would do when we were sent to our room without supper for some infraction or other...

Enola, my heart goes out to you. As the grandmother of a special needs child, Downs Syndrome, I understand the angst. Be there for your daughter and know that we are praying for you and your family.

Quote: My heart and prayers go out to Brandi and her baby. Are they planning on another ultra sound? Is there any possible way they could be wrong? I pray for strength for you as you support your daughter. It is so hard to stand by and not be able to "fix" our children's heartaches.
