The Front Porch Swing

Worst time of year to have a birthday! Probably why I'm not really into birthdays, but oh well what can you do. It's nice now because I'm just home with my son and husband and have an excuse to make a cheesecake and home made chicken noodle soup!

Actually, and go ahead and ask me how I know this, the worst time of year to have a birthday is Labor Day.

I'm not very into birthdays, either. Basically, I'm not into holidays where I'm the center of attention. Or holidays where you're supposed to give gifts and be organized enough to send timely cards. I'm worse with holidays where I'm supposed to get gifts. Honestly, unless it's food or flowers I already know I don't want it. At all. I don't even really want to look at it. But please stare at me while I open it. And make sure I get my "surprise!" & "I'm about to burst with pleasure" & "aren't you so clever for buying it" faces sequenced just right. "Thanks!"

I'm a little better with food holidays, but not much. It kinda sucks the air out of the room when everyone is doing competitive cooking, ("I made nutty designs on the top of the pecan pie, I made the crust from scratch" and "the cranberry sauce is raw ... we're following an all raw fruititarian diet now and I've never felt better") and I'm like, "That 40 lb turkey? I've been "cooking" it for 8 months. I plucked it with my bare hands. Ima gonna cook its feet tomorrow."

That said, the only birthday party I've ever had that was anywhere near my birthday and not just tacked on to someone else's birthday party as an afterthought was thrown by my friends in England. They didn't know from Labor Day.

Don't worry, I'm totally capable of agreeing to disagree :) really no way to "prove" who's right anyways! Haha. Although reading someone's research would be funny I'm sure!
Although I will point out that if your birthday is right after Christmas no one can make it (although my dad doesn't like kids, especially his own, so birthday parties weren't an option anyways). People have an annoying habit of "joining" your Christmas and birthday gifts even if it's the exact same thing others get as just there Christmas gift.... how hard is it really to make someone a little card that says happy birthday? But we can't choose when were born.

I did the same thing!!! I thought I knew my WR hen's egg and so I collected many of them to set.....well, guess what? Not one WR chick, all black chicks from one of my BA hens.

That was before I had a breeding pen set up, but now I do, so that pretty white bird is going to a honeymoon suite with her stud muffin for several days and then those eggs are going straight into the Brinsea....no nest box for those. This is my last chance this season and I want it to be right.

I was sort of joking...but sort of not. I've noticed I am losing my memory quite early on in life in little ways that are significant to a nurse, but probably not significant to anyone else...everyone thinks they are losing their memory on most days....but certain types of memory loss are a little more important.

I had a lady with Pick's dementia as a hospice patient, so got familiar with her case history and the course of her disease.

Those are lovely!!! Such a healthy, big plant!

It's getting so cool here this evening that I am thinking we will have to shut some windows around here before long. I'm not complaining, merely rejoicing!

I googled Pick's and came up with this:

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/dementias/the-dementias.pdf

It's 40 pages and very interesting. I take Arrecept and though it is working mainly I still forget what I'm doing. Stand a minute and think what? Oh, now it's time to put coffee filter in. You know, just a 5 second lapse. But definitely there and I'm aware of it. It happens more often these days. Hope the doubling of the med will keep it under control. The Dr said it could take up to 3 mon.

Off to a job interview. Please pray God gives me the words to say and that His will is done. I really want this job! But it has to be what He wants...cause only He knows where I should be in the fall
It's refreshing to go to a job interview when you release the results to God. Add to that the realization that you can be in the driver's seat. Put your best foot forward, show them how you can benefit the company, send a thank you note for the time it took for them to review your application and resume, and to interview you, pray about it, then, WHEN they offer you the job, YOU can decide if it's a job you really want to accept!
What kind of job is it?
Prayers please. My friend's sister is in lockdown at Troutdale HS ... active shooter ...
Prayers lifted.

I let the littles out again this afternoon. They are getting so very brave. They ventured across the lawn, checked the edge of the woods where they hung out yesterday, cleaned up a bunch of scratch that i dumped on the ant nests, and less than an hour later, they decided it was time to go back into the safety of the electronet.

Good Morning!

What do you think of my new pet?

I was coming back from the mailbox and found him climbing up the side of our house. That is the 2nd one I have seen in 3 years. He is fairly quiet. Doesn't get upset when I touch him.

Lisa :)

Be careful Terantula hair is very irritating. When I used to ride out on Miramar land you could spot one terrantuala per every few hundred square feet... They are pretty though. Good jumpers too.

supposed to taste like crab too.
