The Front Porch Swing

First Nations joke:

Grandpa takes his grandson fishing. They are sitting at the end of the dock when a mighty wave comes and swoops the young boy away. Grandpa stands up, raises his arms and calls out: "Creator! You cannot take my grandson. He is the only son of my only daughter and she will kill me! Return him immediately!"

Another huge wave and the little boy is washed up on the dock, exhausted, choking, but alive. Grandpa stands up again, raises his arms and shouts into the sky: "He had a cap!"

good one

Duplo! Oh I had forgotten that! We got into the train set and we could cover the whole downstairs of the house almost with train tracks. The set is still in a box in the cellar and I will definitely give it to any grand kids I should be blessed with. Thanks for the Duplo memories.

I like Duplo over Lego because you can build some HUGE things.

(Yes... I built what he couldn't reach haha)

I bought all their Duplo from Ebay or the thriftstore. They have the train track too. We didn't have much as kids, being fairly poor, we were happy but boy did we dream of having giant piles of duplo/lego.... so now I am a mom I get to play with Duplo

Can't ride because of a hip injury in an accident last year, No place close enough to walk to. We are 10 miles from the closest store. Haven't tried board games but I can hear it now. I'm Bored. ha ha
Hope the pup keeps her occupied. Doug and I had to be gone for my eye appointment most of the day today so all she did was sleep. Tomorrow we are scrubbing carpet from last weekends!company. I'll keep trying/

Jenga... All teens love Jenga.

Love the Duplo wall sculpture. Did you see the cool YouTube video of the cat playing Jenga?

I did! Cats are so crazy at times.

My step-son likes playing Jenga. He's a bit delayed with his fine motorskills so it's great practice for him. He's gotten quite good at it too.

WOW! That's awesome. This looks like the Tower of One my son built when he was little. It had one Duplo block stacked up as high as he could reach and came back in the room and he had grabbed a chair and stacked above his head and then asked for a ladder and kept going until it was as tall as his dad and the dang thing never tipped once...until I hit it on the way to bed. Oops.

I love building things. Still do... but now that I'm older I don't do it as much. Too much worrying about it being good enough. I need to put that to the wind and just DO again. I used to build cages for my pet rats as a teen. I sewed clothes for my Barbies. Built castles for the cats out of cardboard boxes. Why not translate it into making clothes for myself? I love simple dresses the best anyway. Or build cages for rabbits or chickens. (hint: DH is mr. It's gotta be perfect

Love him dearly, but my ducttape wielding way gets cramped dangit)

You should see my desk. It's not wide enough, so I ducttaped a shelf to it

I still fall into my perfectionist attitude sometimes and then nothing gets accomplished so now I say, screw it, it's good enough. So why not go back to building, sewing, creating in general. I am starting to make jewelry again, even if it's just for me. How we all got so concerned with it not being good enough is beyond me.

My 14 and 16 yrolds still ask for Legos every Christmas. Easy peasy to buy for. The fish even has a lego cave to hide in. They never stop making stuff. Why should we?

rrrmamma... how do you make homemade tortillas?

Rebekah is gluten intolerant so she makes corn tortillas.
2 cups Masa Harina flour (gets it from nuts.com)
1 1/4 cups Water
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of salt (optional)
Stir with spoon until you can't, anymore then mush it all together with your hands until it is mixed.
Form into balls what ever size you want, if it is too big or small just mush it with the rest of the mix and try again.
Flatten (she bought a cast iron tortilla press to make this part easy).
Fry on small cast iron skillet (she bought this as well) 1 minute per side
We cook them in olive oil, enough to get the skillet damp. 1 minute then flip and put the cheese on (making tacos) and cook 1 more minute.
Rebekah's caveat - The dough does NOT KEEP well. Make only what you are going to use at the time. Given how easy it is, not a problem.

Don't quit on the board games if you haven't tried? My girls are always on their computers, iPods, GameBoys but they do like to play board games as well. 19 and 21.

Off to Oregon with the kidults tomorrow afternoon

McMurray's has two. One is a box thingy but it says that it gets hot pretty quick so you can't use it long. They also have a plug-in one that looks pretty good. You can get replacement bulbs for it. It's around $11 I think. I think one like the box can be built pretty easily.

I got the one from McMurray. $14.95 shipped. And that's the cheapest I could find. Thanks for the info.
