The Front Porch Swing

I agree with you 100% Bee.  If I preach tolerance and then call anyone who doesn't agree with my point of view a bigot, then who is truly intolerant?  My father always said, "Opinions are like rear ends.....everybody's got one....and if you don't want to hear someone elses's, then sit on your own."

Funny but so true! LOL I'll have to remember that one.

Bee, this is the size of my porch. But on the bright side, I do have TWO 'welcome' mats!!

Lisa :)
@TexasLisa When I saw your two welcome mats, they made me thing about rough and fine sandpaper! Knock off the rough stuff with the first, and the fine stuff with the second!

To Heartsizedfarm .....Good luck to you and the girls....I fully support gay marriage and civil unions....But respect the right of others to disagree on whatever religious or cultural grounds they choose as long as those who disapprove of gay rights do not attempt to mandate their disapproval through governmental interventions and policies such as we see in states like TN and TX......Same rights and policies for both straight and gay people should be the governmental norm universally....This whole discussion is pressing the envelope right up to the edge of what is permissible on this forum...Enough said by me, maybe too much..

Agreed, subject change! Does anyone have yummy campfire recipies? We're going camping for five days! Me, my son, his cousin and aunt and uncle. My husband can't make it ;(

We like roasting apples over the campfire. Yep, you read that right.....apples! Cut them into quarters, thread them on the wienie roasting rods, and then hold them in the fire. The outside will begin to sizzle like crazy. They won't get really soft all the way through, but they will get so juicy! The skin gets this wonderful very faint bitterness that just sings against the sweetness of the apple. I usually mix up cinammon/sugar, then when the apples are "done" the kids dip them in that mixture. They love them!

We also do 'omelets in a bag'. Mix up the eggs, milk, salt and pepper, then divide mixture into individual portions in heavy, freezer type ZipLock bags. I use empty margarine tubs to take along chopped peppers, onions, shredded cheeses, and pre-cooked bacon. The first day we wake up, when things are still a little hectic, I let the kids (and grownups), add whatever things they want to their omelet, mush the bag around, then pop them into simmering water until they're done. Slit the bag, the omelet slides out, and they taste pretty doggone good! Caveat: This is always a "first morning breakfast" because I don't trust the mixture to stay cold enough and remain good on ice any longer than that.

If you're fishing, clean the fish, rinse and dry. Then brush them with Miracle Whip, a little seasoned salt or lemon pepper, then put them into one of those long handled campfire baskets, either sprayed with cooking spray or brushed with oil so the fish skin doesn't stick. Cook over the campfire until they are done. Yummy!

Tell her one day is her's and one day is your's and let her figure out how to entertain them.

Welcome to my porch.....right here on Oleo Acres.

It looks great without the pond! I've been wanting one of those big pots for ages. Not sure what I'd do with it, surely the blackberry vines we call a "yard" would swallow it whole, but I know I want it.

Speaking of blackberry vines, I see the whole concept of sin as something that has gotten very overgrown with opportunistic prickly stickers that just grow and grow out of control until they obscure the very object that supported their growth in the beginning. Now we look at the vines and think that's the sin. IMO, the only sin is divisiveness ... believing that the vines are divine.

The framework for my chicken coop had been swallowed up in blackberry vines over the years. I remembered what was under that mess of vines, though nobody else here could share my vision. Finally I got help to cut those vines back, reveal the framework, and help me build a coop. It took work, but it is an improvement and it was so worth it.
