The Front Porch Swing

Hey guys I may be dropping the idea of having chickens again.

I went up to the house last weekend brought my neighbor Tom his Feed and two bales of bermuda for the horse. He was recovering form a bender the day before and was still drunk... His son went dumpster diving behind a liquor store and came home with a case of assorted beer. Therefore Tom couldnt help me unload the hay and feed my horse.

So I said no problem and drove to my house backed the truck up and realized I couldnt stand long enough to get the hay off the truck. I had to sit on my walker and drag one bale off into my lap (balanced on lap) then roll it over to the storage pallets. One bale runs about 125 lbs. Then getting one bale over to the feeder was almost too much. Top it off with the fact that my girl had moved her feeder a good twelve feed from the access door. So I had to take the walker into her corral and work a little sit a little till I got it back into position. It weighs about 150 so I have to tip it up and walk it or flop it from edge to edge.

Getting my walker out of the corral was fun...

The chickens and the horse were keeping me active.... when they went my activity went because Tom is doing the horse work for me.

Unfortunately, its always the squeaky wheel that gets the grease and in small towns, the squeaky wheels tend to be those with nothing better to do than fulfill their need to be important. It sounds like Nick is a pawn in their game, to bad he doesn't have the kahonees to stand up to them. Unless, he really does want the position now that he is retired.

Sorry to hear that you are having such problems Deb.

Wish I could be there to help.

Its my own d.a.mn.e.d. fault. Too heavy too lazy... lettin pain get in the way. I never did that before.

I am giving myself another year to get going again. First step is spending one night a week up at my house puttering and generally getting away from family. I even bought linens last week to spend the night but mom had a melt down because her dogs toenails needed trimming and I NEEDED TO TAKE her to the vet now. I asked her when the appointment was. She hung up to make the appointment call and I never heard from her. They were closed on Saturday... I lost my impetus.

Moms a Drama Queen... Grandma I cant trust home alone for too long. Dean can handle it for 24 hours than goodness... but I need to be out of cell phone contact....

sorry for the melt down. I appreciate you all letting me rant. That helps just as much as physical help.

Thank you, Deb, for reminding me of what's important. It's not elections and town criers and low vote numbers.....it's good people struggling to get by day after day. I sat here reading your post and visualizing what you went through. I need to remember that things I take for granted - going out and dumping feed bags into the storage can, working in the coop and such - are monumental tasks for others. I would hate to see you unable to get chickens. You had such good ideas on making things accessible for your mobility issues and, like you said, they kept you active.

I don't imagine trying to take care of yourself and your mom and grandmother is a cakewalk either. I think sometimes we make things harder on ourselves than they really have to be when we put others too far before ourselves. Oh, I know, that's the Christian thing to do, and when it comes to family it's the right thing to do. But unless we take care of ourselves the best we can, we aren't strong enough to meet the needs of everyone else. I love that you have a plan. Whatever I can do to help you get through it, I'm right here. I'm proud to call you my friend.

Deb, this is the place for rants! Its good to let it out once in a while. It is so nice to have a place that I can complain and have non-judgmental support from my friends. Love you guys!

I know what you mean about letting things get in the way of doing what you need to do to take care of you. I gained 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Dang that stress eating. I worked so hard to loose it two years ago, I am not going to return to that weight! As soon as this move is done, I will be setting up a schedule that includes walks twice a day and workouts at least three times a week. We have the home gym equipment, I AM GOING TO USE IT. I really am sick and tired of being too tired to do the things that I want to do.

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.... LOL. Had a cousin and his family drop in last weekend... they are doing Medifast... Both he and his wife have dropped at least forty pounds each... but DANG. They eat bars, and smoothies, and more bars... oh and they get one fresh food meal per day... 4 oz protien and a salad....

sigh. Outside a bypass that journey is going to take me at least four years.

What ever the reason to do it.... its the right thing. I never want Grandma or Mom to have to go into a care facility. I still cant get over the fact that Mom is 80. To me she will always be the one to chip in when I have a project.... We built that hickory road cart together.... twelve or thirteen years ago. Thats the mom I remember not the one now who had to get one of those help I have fallen and cant get up pendants... Because I cant pick her up any more.

For what its worth if you have a family member that falls alot and cant get back up off the ground the fire department will happily do that for you.... no charge.

thank you Blooie...
