The Front Porch Swing

You're right. Think of Rachel Ray's cute little stove on her food channel set. Old as the hills.

If I hadn't just replaced mine I might have made a serious offer, as I used to love watching her cook with that stove.

Thanks for all the well wishes! We had an amazing time in Disneyland, my son even did a great job for the most part with the lines. Near the end of the last day he had a few meltdowns, but they didn't last long and he was tired and extremely overwhelmed. He even did great on the way home, which was longer then expected with are flight being delayed, then a seven hour drive. We didn't make it home until past eleven and he won't fall asleep in the car anymore. He passed out fast once home. Long trip, but lots of fun!

Now onto thread news.... Those stoves are awesome and retro is "in" these days! You should absolutely try and sell them! They are so cool!

Alice, I'm so glad you had an awesome time at Disneyland. I know all about little kid sensory overload - the meltdowns come fast, hard and unexpectedly, but they never last long enough to dim the entire experience, do they?

Exciting day yesterday. First of all it was Little Diane's 20th birthday. I remember every moment of the day she was born. I wish I could explain how my heart swelled when her parents had arranged with the doctor for me to hold her first - still attached to her mom - and my daughter announced that she was going to be named after me. No words....just no words.

I held a few eggs up to my ear yesterday and I could swear it sounded like someone was grinding his little teeth in there. Ken says I just wanted to hear something so much that I imagined it. Maybe. We'll find out in the next day or so.

And then last night I was tucked into bed with my iPad, just reading, when it rang. The kids and I use Facetime a lot because it's free and doesn't take any minutes off our cell phones, plus we can see each other. I answered it and there was Kendra, all freshly bathed, hair damp and hanging down in shiny ringlets, and her purple Yellowstone Bear jammies on. In the background I heard Jenny ask her, "Who is that, Kendra? Who do you see?"

And Kendra was smiling at me and she said, "Hi, Gramma"! First time ever! I melted. I'm still a little puddley. (I made that word up and I like it, so there!)

Yep, yesterday was a good day! Well, except for the wind gusts up to 50 mph and no way to wrestle the plastic over the hoop run. But other than that....

The funny thing is she still calls her mom "Dog". We haven't figured that out yet. "Dog" was her first word a few months ago, and she knows what it means. She gives our English Setter hugs and cookies and calls her "Dog", and if she sees one on TV, in books, or out and about she says it too, so she knows. Last night was also the first time she put two words together. So yeah, I'm puddley. She turned 3 on September 1. Ken and I have often said that she is like Helen Keller - there's a key for communication in her somewhere and we just have to find the key. I think we're getting closer. Boy, when she gets here this morning when Mom goes to work she's going to get the biggest hug EVER!

Blooie, I love all three of your stories, but the one about Kendra is my favorite. How sweet. Sounds like you have a family full of amazing people

All kids are different and they all develop in their own way and speed. I have three boys and no two hit the milestones at the same time. My oldest walked, no, ran at seven months. My middle waited until he was nine months (still early) and the last one, Reese, was over a year old when he took his first steps. That last one was closest to "normal" and had me afraid there was a problem. He was the same one that was a bit quiet around people he just met, but talked well and constantly at home. One day, the daycare was closed for some reason and I had to work so I hired his daycare teacher to come to my house to babysit all three boys. She stayed with them at my house all day and when I got home from work she met me at the back door all excited. She was nearly beside herself with excitement.

Sitter : Did you know Reese could talk?!
Me: What do you mean? (confused)
Sitter: I heard Reese talking to his brothers!!
Me: Why? What did he say? (still confused)
Sitter: He was TALKING!!!!
Me: Did you NOT KNOW he could talk? (He had been at that daycare since he was two months old and he was just over 2)
Sitter: No. We thought there was something wrong with him. He's never said a word at school.
Me: Why didn't you tell me?
Sitter: We thought you knew.
