The Front Porch Swing

When I give the gift of a quilt to the newest baby in the family, I always include a little note. It tells Mommy that this quilt was not made to be hung on the wall as a decoration, or put away in a box until the baby is older, or folded at the foot of the crib and taken out when baby goes in. I made it to be used and loved. I want them to be wrapped in it when they go outside, covered with it when they go to sleep, and learning to crawl on it when it's tossed on the floor for them. When they're older it should be tent or a fort in the living room. They can snuggle into it with popcorn when they're watching a movie or rolled up in it like a baby burrito when they don't feel well. I tell Mom, "The goal is to have a well worn corner of it small enough to tuck into a corner of their suitcase when they marry or go off to college." Nobody's let me down yet!

Oh, my, TT - that IS tackier than the one I'm stuck with!

Oh yeah it is Blooie. I know you posted elsewhere about the song being tacky due to the "gimme" nature but I like it, especially the original version by Eartha Kitt:
Note that it was written and recorded in 1953. One lyric is "a 54 convertible please, light blue" - the LATEST model of course!

"The song is a tongue-in-cheek look at a Christmas list addressed to Santa Claus by a woman who wants extravagant gifts such as sables, yachts, and decorations from Tiffany's." (wikipedia)

One last Christmas Funny

Similar to the card that my Dad sent to my wife and me this year!

To the tune of "my favorite things" so sing along if you like.
The front has 3 cats in winter garb each singing a line:

Angels on treetops and tinsel so shiny,
Porcelain Santas and reindeer quite tiny,
Low-hanging ornaments, popcorn on strings,
(inside)
Say your good-byes to your favorite things!
With a cat in an orange striped Union Suit with button up rear flap knocking over the tree.

I love the pictures! Katie did so well on that quilt! My son never got into blankets or stuffed animals much. But he does have certain toys he gets obsessed with for awhile. Here he is on Christmas. He's making a Lego habitat for his dinosaurs.

You can't see his awesome dinosaur slippers my friend got him in this picture very well, so here is another one

He was so happy with his velociraptor toy! I hid it behind the pot the trees in so he would open the others first! He opened it and was so happy! He said "santa did make it! He did have time to make it for me!". My niece and her mom got him a velociraptor fossil dig set, he spent a long time on that! In his stocking he got a spotting scope and a compass/ whistle hiking tool, so he was excited by that and we went on two walks. Then he had a windup flashlight. He ended up with so much, I'm tempted not to get him anything next year! Lol

We had that last year... it was SO much I was considering stashing some for their birthdays

(I actually did.. it was simply too much)

This Santa shops gently used and open box, and last year they got Little People... piles upon PILES of Little People. Got them for a bargain, but it was probably $300+ worth in Little People stuff. I get a little overly excited

This year was much, much better. Thomas didn't throw anything (except for still wrapped gifts. He hates wrapped gifts) so that means he wasn't crazy overwhelmed.

He hates wrapped gifts!?! Lol! I understand, gotta see what's inside

. Most of the stuff this year and last were from others. We don't get him that much, but oh my gosh, everyone went crazy this year! My friend got him a ton, my dad got him a ton! It's crazy! The hard part is I can't get rid of the old stuff he doesn't play with because I have a daycare! Otherwise I'd just donate a bunch of the older toys.

I don't know what it is. I guess because he can't see what it is, it's just a stupid square and not interesting. When I ripped the paper a bit for him, he tried to stick it back on.

I had forgotten to wrap the little hat, so I stuck in on top of the box... he figured out it was a hat and was putting it on his head. In case you were trying to figure it out.

Unhappiest kid ever.

Until he got to a toy he liked.

I'm "lucky" Thomas chews on toys... so throughout the year things end up in the trash because and arm or leg has been chewed off.

we dont wrap we put in gift bags.... that way they can be used for more than one year. we stuff colorful tissue on top and that gets used more than once too.... would that work for him?

I'm thinking next year we'll do the classic giftbox. The kind with a big bow on top where you can just lift the lid off. I think he'd like that. Might even find/make something really sturdy that we can use every year. Repetition is key with him, so if it comes out every year he'll catch onto it.
