Pretty often people start threads asking for help with gasping birds. I've had the same question in the past myself. It's a tough question to answer because of the number of possible causes. This thread is intended as a place to list and discuss conditions and ailments that cause gasping.

From a disease/parasite standpoint I believe this pretty much covers it but if I've missed anything post it up here.

Keep in mind that gape worm is uncommon even though as your surf around the web most people will point you right at gape when you say you have a gasping bird. I've never seen a confirmed case of it presented on this forum or anywhere that I can think of.

    Non disease related causes
-Sometimes they really are just yawning
-Airplanes flying over low can cause them to "yawn" a few times in a row.
    -Egg binding
-Boinking their heads on the ceiling
    -Impacted crop

Should be helpful for some people, good job! :D

It is hard to pinpoint causes when there are so many potential causes of many common symptoms. We need a thread like this for every single symptom, really, and they need to be made into stickies for easy access.

    Best wishes.
