My name is julie. I'm a new member love the magazine and web site. I'm from ohio.started getting interested in chickens about 10 months a go. Mine are all golden buff. I read up on them and thought they wouldn't go broody. It was bread out of them. I thought perfect for me. I live on a small 4 acer farm with now 6 chickens and my basset hound. I love them all. The chickens grow on you. One of my girls went broody on me. I thought they wern't suppose to do that. Thats why I picked the breed. I was given 12 feryle eggs from another farmer to see what she does with them. I put them under her on 7/15/2013. So around August 5 th If she does what she is suppose to do I'll have 12 babies. I've been reading the post here and just had to join. With the wealth of advice from other chicken raisers. I need all the help I can get. Yes I did reasershed but other people who actually been doing this for some time and others I feel I can't go wrong

Sometimes first time broodies can screw up but most do ok.
Any chicken can get the urge to raise a family. I had a black Leghorn (non-broody breed) raise 4 clutches for me and broody breeds never get the urge.
