We have chicks this year and have recently started letting the oldest chicks hang out with the adults. Big red is our rooster and he's only fathered one chick. One that was raised in the flock. He did great with that chick. But this is our first time integrating chicks that he didn't have a part in raising. I was pleasently surprised that almost as soon as they were put in together the first time he accepted them. He went as far as to stay by their side and watch over them. Even to teach the younger rooster. He even goes as far as to protect them from our ducks, especially the youngest duck whom hasn't yet learned to respect chickens. It was great to watch him almost instantly fill that fatherly stance to two bantam chicks that aren't even his, and four chicks that are his that he didn't even raise. It makes me greatly appreciate having such a gentle rooster even more.

He sounds like a great rooster!! I’m hoping mine is going to be a good dad too. He did good with 3 of the 3 1/2 month olds so far!
