New England.. the cold part.
I got off the interstate today, and was luckily about 10minutes early to pick up my son from vacation camp. As I got off the exit ramp, I saw a broken down car and 2 clueless looking teenage girls. I zipped in front of them, pulled the car over, and walked over. 'You guys know what you're doing?" I said. "Uh... not really..." said the girl holding the jack... I noticed they were missing the cranky part of the jack, and got mine. I changed their tire in about 8 minutes, and gave them a quick lesson on how to do it. ie: loosen the lug nuts before raising it up all the way, or you'll just turn the wheel instead of the nut! and make sure the lugs are on real tight after you get the whole thing back on ground level.

So. That was my good deed for the day, and I was even mostly on time to pick up DS! This thread is for posting the good deeds you've done, or a good deed someone has done for you. Pass it on!!!

I just had a wonderful visit with friends tonight at a coffee shop. I then went to the local Krogers. When I was checking out there was a man in front of me who was in obvious pain. He must be a regular there because the cashier and bagger knew him/his situation. I heard him say that he was in so much pain he would just slit his throat (I hope he doesn't really mean this). He was sweating -- from the pain. When it was my turn to checkout the cashier said he had multiple breaks in is vertebrae, which had fused together incorrectly. When I went outside he was sitting on the bench in front of the store. I put away my groceries and went over to him. I told him that it seemed as though he was in a lot of pain and I offered to buy him a pop. He refused a pop -- I asked a couple times -- told him it would be my pleasure. He told me I must not be from this town because nobody is this nice in my town. I told him I've lived here forever. I told him that I hoped he felt better. He very much appreciated someone asking how he was doing. He wasn't the neatest or cleanest man (doesn't matter), but he deserved to have someone care about him -- we all deserve it. I hope that he's doing well tonight.

It was a few weeks ago now..I have done nice deeds in the mean time...But this one will always stick out in my mind.

I was walking up to the shops one evening and saw two people cooking in the back of an old van...BACKPACKERS!! They had to be...it looked like they hadnt seen a shower in a while- and had been sleeping in the van. Anyway...Not knowing what language they might even speak I kept walking. On the way home again..I had to stop... I asked them if they were tourists...Immediately the defenses went up..." on we are moving on soon- as soon as we have eaten." I told them I didnt care about that- And offered to let them come use my shower after they had finsihed eating.. OMG... you would think I just offered them $10000 from the reaction I got to my offer. I went home and did a whirlwind clean of the bathroom. I started to wonder if they would come over- or if they would have thought i must be some kind of nut to offer strangers a shower...
They did come over for a shower. Turns out they were from Cananda..lovely people too.. we stayed up real late talking and they took so many photos of my ducks. I know its a risk inviting strangers into your home.. and dont make a habit of it... But in this case- Im really glad I did.

We NEVER have loose dogs in our neighborhood, so when DH said there are two big dogs laying in our driveway, the first thought was OMG my chickens! I ran through the back door into the yard to check on the gate on our 6' fence. Everything was OK. I went out and saw the exhausted pooches resting in front of our cars, and thought where did they come from? They looked like some kind of fancy breed and they were big dogs and they also had on those type of collars with a doohicky on them that looked like they belonged in an invisible fence. I thought maybe I'd give them water, but was afraid to approach them. Then I remembered seeing a house down the road that had little flags along their lawn with a sign of some sort, maybe they belonged to them and they escaped the invisible fence.

So I went out and tried to lure them down the driveway and walk them, but they looked so tired and wouldn't come with me. So I drove down the road to the house with the fence and I saw the sign that said "invisible fence - dogs in training" OK! They must belong here! When I rang the doorbell and waited.....finally the woman answered the door, and I asked if she's missing two dogs, Yes! They've been gone for 7 hours and they were frantic for them! She sent her two sons down to my house to retrive them. They were still there, and the boys asked Duke to come and he was so tired he couldn't get up and the other dog knew he was in some kind of trouble and went over to me and put his face into my knees.

Then the truck with "Daddy" in it came by and helped get the dogs in the truck. They thanked me, I could have called the local animal shelter, but I remembered the sign. That was my small good deed for the day.

in the summer, we go to Coldstone Creamery about twice a month. For those who don't have a Coldstone, you have my sympathy! It's a wonderful ice cream shop where the ice cream is made fresh everyday and they have about 30-40 different "add-in's". Well, anyway, my favorite thing to do is order ours and as we're leaving, give extra money to pay for the people behind me. : ) It's great to see their faces when they find out they get a free ice cream!

When I go into a gas station and there's a an older person getting coffee, I always ask the cashier how much coffee is where ever I'm at and proceed to leave that amount for that specific person and leave. I like to be out the door before they know it though...

That just makes my day every time and it's usually just spare change.

Once, on my way home from work at 2am, I went to a Jack in the Box drive thru, and the people in front of me (who I did not know at all) paid for my meal!! I even got the change! It was a big thing to me and has stayed with me for a long time. Every once in a while, when I see someone behind me in line at a fast food joint, I ask the cashier to let me pay for the order of the person behind me. I ask the cashier to just say 'Random acts of kindness are important'. I dont know if they say it, but I feel good for weeks after. I hope that in some small way, I brightened someone elses day.

Whenever I go through a toll booth on the way to boston or Cape cod to visit my family, I always pay an extra $1 for the car behind me. It is so fun to watch the confusion ensue, and it really brightens up someone's day! and it only costs me a dollar! well, one each way. My kids get to see me doing something nice for someone, without expecting to receive anything in return. good lessons!

I also always try to help people who are lost in the backwoods areas near my house... like 10 each season! people parked at intersections with the maps out...

I move snapping turtles in the spring that keep trying to lay their eggs in the road. Last year I moved a turtle 9 times! Hopefully it wasn't the same turtle each time! It was at least 3 different turtles, I took pictures. scary, but the rednecks around here will run them over on purpose

Once I drove to a friend's house where her mother was housesitting to change her tire... tires... I change a lot of tires.

I bake cookies every week, and give at least 2 plates of them away, to the nursing home, or the post office, or the hardware store guys, or the man at the dump.

I have an editing business, and I edit things for free all the time... which isn't good business, but I really like to help!

I'd like to do more! I'm going to talk to the local food shelf about egg donations! I could donate a couple of dozen a week... or I could bake things... or grow things...

I am loving hearing how others help! Keep it up!

Me and the DW love to do for others. Take hot coffee and snacks to utility workers working to repair downed power lines in the middle of winter, paying for public servants(police, fireman, ems, soldiers, etc) meals at restaurants, helping an elderly person get their groceries to and in their car, and just anything else we can. We don't do it for any glory, we do it for humanity.

Well, this was a good deed done for ME and I have yet to figure out who did it(family and friends have no idea)....I dont have a way to haul brush so have had a brush pile at the end of the yard for a while, trying to borrow a relatives truck to haul it to the local burn area.
I went out yesterday and it was GONE and even raked up!

I was happy and stunned at the same time. Its times like that when you realize the whole population isnt completely going downhill.
I always try to help if I can, babysit a relatives kids, do farm chores for someone on vacation, give people things that they are in need of and we just have sitting around etc. And I am always ready to lend an ear if someone just needs to talk.
I do think what goes around comes around.
