Funny thing.. just last month my employer was in my office chastising a co-worker and myself for not wanting to give to United Way. She was under pressure to "look good" because they were having a contest to see which director could raise the most money.

Little did she know that DH and I had just stretched our own paychecks by having that same co-worker's water turned back on and putting food on her table for her and her children until her next payday.

Such is most "on-demand giving" .. my boss's motives were wrong ... AND she was failing to see a real need right in front of her ..

I prefer to give where I see a need .. in my own community.

Boss wasn't happy .. but co-worker and I have both recovered..

I realize that my example was not someone that I didn't know .. etc etc. ..

But more to the point that if we all take care of each other, we shouldn't need some other agency TELLING us that we need to ...

I know there are many many many examples of good samaritans happening every single day .. unfortunately the media focuses on the bad .. that is what sells.

The link I posted earlier was a prime example of two people who learned of someone in need and went out of there way (a little further than just across the road) to help that person.

OP also had a great example ..

I wouldn't mind hearing more.............

And for what its worth.. i agree with you 100%. Fable. A fiction written by man..
It IS a great story though.. i will say that.
Thats what the bible is in MY opinion... (since others are bringing up religion..i'd say its fair for me too also..)

But we can each have our OWN opinions on that matter and still respect each other...

We dont always have to agree..

I suggested to shut down the thread because when folks started to bring religion into this..it ALWAYS gets ugly. Always...
It will just become a bicker about religion thread since some people could not respect Thais wishes to leave religion out of his thread..
