Ok so I've noticed a few threads asking this question, can u keep quail in tiered habitats with ramps .... simple answer is yes, yes u can ...

BUT...

If u have acquired older raised quail who have never seen a ramp before? No, no u cant.

I raised my babies from egg. They're in a massive 3 tiered cage. AND THEY LOVE THE RAMPS!

Here's how I did it.

Week 1 ... brooder.
Week 2 .. top tier of cage with heat lamp and heat mat.
Week 3 ... prop up ramps on boxes to make them shallower and almost make a natural staircase up the box out of shells and stones.
Week 4 ... running up ramps like pros.
Week 5 ... remove the boxes.

I've just added 3 2 Week old chicks to their habitat. Heat provided. They're already running up and down the steep ramps following the bigger ones.

So I guess the answer depends on how much work ur going to put in teaching them and how old they are when acquired and whether they've ever seen or used a ramp before.

With younger birds I think ull have a great chance of success. And my guys absolutely love the ramps they speed up n down em like roadrunner 😂😂

Take it out every couple of days, brush n shake it out in the garden. Gets a soak in the sink once a week ... doesn't take long to dry out, it's pretty easy maintenance xx
Does is stink from getting it wet?

Not at all no. I hardly get any smell from their habitat. My dogs smell more than those birds 😂😂😂😂 its gentle on their feet and everything either just drains through it or dries out of top. Their feet stay pretty clean and callous free and they're on wire (as the levels are wire) Sawdust makes me sneeze like nobodies buisness and sand is just messy. Thought I'd give fake grass a go n so far I've not had a single issue with it plus it cost me about 15 for a 2m roll. So even if I have to buy new in a few months idve still spent less than I wouldve on disposable bedding xx

I think if it was used on a solid floor without an sbsorbant barrier underneath then u may get smell issues but as long as its used over wire u shouldn't get those problems xx

The 1st ramps i put in the quail were not sure of so i used 1/4 wire with hay under it attached to the ramp. They could use it no problems

I'm going to jump in here and ask... does anyone have experience with blue scale quail and will they use ramps? I have an order in for hatching eggs that I won't get till May but I'm looking around for a habitat for them. I'm not sure weather to get one with a ramp or not lol

I dont know much about blue scales but I heard they are active so they would probably use a ramp.
