The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Hey Wisher...That last set of pics from Loghousemom made me think...Do you think it would be OK if we made a list of recommended egg shippers? We wouldn't give negatives but we would say who was GOOD! That way we could get an idea before ordering shipped eggs. If you want me to, I will start...If you don't then feel free to pass on the whole idea. Again I don't want to bag on anyone but it would be nice to know who shipped what and well

ex: Chooks Chick shipped an assortment of pure/project eggs beautifully from KS to CA 100% intact

BethBug sent Dorking eggs from AR to CA also packed beautifully 100% intact
If you want to talk about who sent you really great eggs that were clean and packed really well, I think that would be great. It would be best to start another thread for that and be aware that you may get some "well let me tell you what he/she sent ME!" type replys. I wouldn't do it myself because of the potential of hurting someones feelings. In this thread, I have never posted who sent or received eggs until AFTER they posted and said it was them. That is because I don't want to take the liberty of talking about them specifically without their prior knowledge or approval. I have always told them about the experiment, asked if they would be interested, and waited for them to post.

That makes sense! I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings either but I guess that some people would use it as a forum to throw folks under the bus and that is the opposite of what we want.

I agree with the two previous posts.

I am not upset. I received the correct number of eggs and that is all I really wanted. In fact, I have decided to use the dirty eggs as my own little science experiment. Maybe I should start a thread for that....

I asked the other seller to hold off sending my other eggs. We were dumped onwith 19.5 inches of snow yesterday and another storm is supposed to be on it's way the day after tomorrow. I would rather not take the chance that they get stuck someplace along the way.

Goodness.... Is it spring yet?

Hi y'all, long time no post. Been a busy busy spring so far. Just wanted to share some photos of some eggs I've gotten in the last couple of weeks. They are all currently in the incubator.
This box was CRUSHED! And when I saw it I thought for sure the eggs would be a total or near total loss. I didnt make a pic of the inside...dumb, but it was sawdust. Only one egg was cracked, not broken, just cracked. All the rest are developing, I candled last night and it was day 10.

This next pic I got a day later. The box was in perfect condition....then I opened it and sadly the eggs were shipped just laying in there on their sides. Only 3 are developing and two have HUGE saddle aircells.

Tis last pic I got last week. They are day 5 incubating today. I took a quick peek last night when I candled the others and they are all starting veins. These eggs looked like I had gone out in my back yard and had gotten them, the air cells were egg-cellent!

WOW!!! Who was that last one from?! What kind of eggs were they? I want to order a few more expensive breeds next month and just cannot decide who to order from....

As a refresher, these were both shipped from the same state on the same day. both have the same blue eggs; one had bantam eggs as a bonus:

I moved the eggs to lockdown tonight. One of the blue eggs from the first shipment made it. It has a huge saddle air cell. 5 of the Bantam eggs made it but only two have normal air cells.

the ones double boxed and packed nicely in bubble wrap, 7 of 8 shipped made it to lockdown. All of them have nice air cells.

Packing correctly makes a big difference!

Agreed ! I got one order of eggs a month or so ago, dont have the pic, already deleted it off my camera. The eggs were wrapped in bubble wrap, shoved in a walmart plastic bag and tied up together in a jumble, the box had two big wads of newspaper, one below and one above the bag-o-eggs. Needless to say NONE of those hatched.

I just received two different shipments of eggs from Florida and New York. Both had each egg wrapped individually in bubble wrap, then then those eggs wrapped in another layer of bubble wrap. then in a box with lots of newspaper and bubble wrap. Both boxes were labeled as fragile, but the one had a sticker on the outside calling attention to the live eggs and not to x-ray the box.

Not sure that means anything or not, but I was very happy for the first time purchasing shipped eggs. The eggs made it in great physical condition....now we will see if they will produce.
