The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

So they have been in the incubator in an upright position for 48 hours, should I put them in the turner now? What position do you recommend I let them hatch in?

I would put them in the turner- big end up the whole time. I hatch in paper egg cartons, that have been cut down.

Do you cut the bottoms off of the egg cartoons for hatching? So I should start turning the eggs now?

Yes, I would start turning them now.

I only cut the tops to allow for air flow. The bottoms stay on and help with clean up too.

It works great!

Okay, I heard that if the chick pips at the small end it will not be able to progress in an egg cartoon and subsequently die. So you leave them completely upright for hatching? Do you have pics of them hatching?

Thanks!!

This seems like a really popular thread lol I'm thinking of trying to sell some hatching eggs in the spring. Did anyone on here try to sell day old peeps?
Look for the Buy, sell, trade section of the forum.

I usually do not like to sell them as day old chicks. It is better to wait a couple of days to make sure they are strong and healthy.

Bryam, please read this - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 It is a must read for all new incubate-ors! Good luck!

I have not read the hatching guide in a while. It changes all the time which is a good thing. It now says what I have been saying about shipped eggs!

Read it over carefully one time and then keep it tabbed for situations that come up. It is a good reference.
