The Green Dragon Roost

Great job on the coop. You can sure tell that's AZ by the fence. My avatar was taken in Buckeye.

I know of a "COOL" idea for ya. MISTERS for the heat of summer. Because 122* is just really hot for anyone. Even Campines need a break from that kinda heat.

Great coop and best of wishes for ya.

I'm thinking about that. The good news is that large tree is on the east side. Sun won't hit the coop/run at all until noon. The block wass is on the south side, that will cover a lot of sun. The roof to the run is 3/4 covered.
But, yeah, a small mister system may be called for.

The past 3 evenings, we've gone out and scooped up each chick and placed them in the chicken door for the night. I've observed them using the ramp to the door today and some are going in and out.
So, tonight, we put the light on in the coop and will wait until after dark to see how many have gone inside to the light and warmth and how many we have to scoop up.

So, what does it take to get the chickens to coop up at night? Any tricks? I had to send my daughter on a belly crawl under the coop to fetch 6 of them tonight. They are almost 5 weeks right now.

Your coop looks great! Did you keep the chickens locked in the coop for a few days before letting them out? If you did and they still aren't going in on their own it may be too dark (in the coop). Also I use golf balls for my nest eggs. :)

Thanks!
Hmmm, no I only had them locked in one day and that was because of low temps and cold wind. Right now, I have a light bulb on in the coop for a little heat and hopefully a beacon to coop up. Tonight was only the second night we tried to let them do it on their own.
