Yes a hen will get rid of any non viable eggs. Maybe the ones left are good. Do you have a candler to check them? It'd be worth it to know whether or not to expect chicks. Sometimes they'll sit on eggs that aren't even fertile. Sorry you will be leaving us at the end of the month!!

I would of just left the eggs with the hen, they know best.
I've read that hens can smell and sense movement in the eggs. So if there is no movement in an egg so late in incubating them, and all others are wiggling, I'm sure she knows something is off about it.
Bring her in and give her back the eggs and hope for luck.

this is the new problem haha they won't stop talking to them.
they didn't realize there was anything in the box
my youngest walked by it and shrieked when the silkie moved. she is terrified of it, lol

It's very possible your hen ate the newly hatched(or soon to be) chicks. Posters have reported that before. Some hens are just not motherly. Even with her inside the house you can't watch her every minute.

6 hatched out of 13, when do I assume the others are no good?
I had one green egg pip and then nothing. he didn't make it. I took him out to take a look at him and he was really underdeveloped. All I can figure is he is one of the ones that got rolled out of the pile and lost heat. Would I be right in thinking that?
So now I guess I just give them chick starter until they are six weeks.
