The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Not very. Hatcheries don't have standard bred birds such as the Reds you see on this page. Cackle has production reds, non-standard birds. It's what their customers get. Here's a video from Cackle of their "breeding pen". LOL

Just how much selection do think goes into making these birds, under such mass breeding? Virtually Zip.

Wow Just wow.
Watching that video is just LOL
Its like rum and coke with way too much coke, its just not right.

Matt usually takes some of his birds to shows pre-sold but you will need to contact him (BYC = Matt1616) to make arrangements. I don't know if he has any more birds for sale but if he doesn't he may be able to direct you to someone who may have the same line for sale.

cmom are you attending any of the upcoming shows? We are planning a trip to the Columbia, MS show this weekend, weather permitting. Snow is predicted for Friday but don't know how much. May be just be flurries. I was so excited about going to that show too. I'm hoping the weather prediction will be "off" enough that we will be able to make the drive. If we don't make this one, we will have to find another one to attend.

That was great and an excellent example of hatchery breeding.

Picked up 2 breeding pairs from Sgribble this past week. They are settling in nicely and responding well to the new home. Can't wait to start breeding these.
I have learned so much this past 6 months thanks to this website and the breeders that contribute the wealth of knowledge they have.

The trip up to Steve's pens was worth it, just for the knowledge and history he has about this beautiful breed, I was fortunate that he was close by, otherwise I would have had a harder time at getting myself established.
Here are a few pictures of my boys and girls.

Handsome birds.

Asmorilda, I will be at Columbia this weekend.

I have been thinking about going to the Newnan, Georgia show the 3rd Saturday in February but will definitely be at the Inverness, Florida Show on Saturday March 5th..

I so want to go to these poultry shows. The FL one is a bit far. It's a little over 11 hours for me, one way. The GA one isn't quite as long. All my planning for this one in MS this weekend may be for naught since the weather predictions don't look to be in our favor. I'm still watching for any changes in forecast though. One place says rain, followed by freezing temps & snow & another one is predicting similar but sounds worse. Saying possible power outages because of the frozen precipitation & winds up to 40mph. I will want to stay off the roads in that kind of weather & I don't want to be away if the power goes out. I need to be here to take care of the chickens & rabbits. I wouldn't ask my daughter to be on the roads to take care of my animals in those conditions.
