Ouch! That's awfully hot for this early in the year...I've got a couple of the coops cleaned out and the birds moved out and 4 more coops to go. I have some other coops that will need to be cleaned but those are for another day. Just getting the ones I need to move the birds out of and others in to for today. Taking a cool break then back to work. The thermometer says it's 93 out. It sure feels like it.
Update: All the birds are finally moved except for the chicks. The thermometer now says 102. It is very hot out.
Did any of the last eight hatch?

Sadly, no. It'll be my luck that both of the chicks will be males...Did any of the last eight hatch?
Wow... a brisky 97? Time to break out the winter parkas!!!Don't think I'll get the chicks moved today but the coops will be clean and ready for them. Finishing up the 2 chick coops out with the big birds coops. Taking another cool break. Oooh we're having a cool spell now, it's only 97 out.
You must have a keen eye if you can tell males from females in newly hatched chicks. I'm a tad over 4 weeks with my chicks, and just now beginning to distinguish sexes. I wish you luck with getting more females. In a male dominated breed, it'll be quite a feat. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe I have 4 pullets and 7 cockerels. Some of the shes may turn out to be hes, but it'll take another week or two to be certain. I need to get your secret for sexing day olds...We will see how many hatch. See one little pip right now so by tomorrow the "showing" should begin!!!![]()
Then I will know if I do one more batch.![]()
The first batch of hatchlings appear to be heavy on the males. I'm suspecting 10 little cockerels to 5 pullets. We will see if THIS 2nd hatch gives more pullets.![]()
I wish you better luck than me. The group I wanted more females I got 3/4 males, and my four Ameraucana I bought to get a cock to make green egg layers with my production reds and all four look to be pullets, of course.Sadly, no. It'll be my luck that both of the chicks will be males...![]()

Of course. It's almost funny how we both aren't seeming to get what we want... but it hurts too much to laugh. But if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need. I should have been a song writer...I wish you better luck than me.
