Maybe it's all in my head, but I think that her breast is getting more pronounced. Maybe she just wasn't eating too much at first, but now is? I just got her 2 weeks ago. To me, it just looks like her breast is so much more full than in the previous pics. It comes out more rather than sloping down.

I agree... she does look different now. If she was underweight, her breast wouldn't be as full as it should be. She definitely shows better type, especially in the second picture. I'd keep her on a high protein diet for awhile to see if she continues to improve. Try to keep her from getting too overweight, though a little bit doesn't hurt. Please keep us updated.

I have 40# feeders in my coops. I keep them full and let the birds eat what they want. I do feed them good feed. They don't seem to be over weight and eat what they want. They do have large pens so they have a lot of room and I do let them out into the pasture too but they don't wonder too far from their coops and often times in the evening when I go to put them back in their pens they are already in them.

My last hatch for this year should be in just over a week. I had a nice male (Skipper) I got from Matt last January at a show but hadn't hatched any chicks from him. I also had another male I hadn't hatched any chicks out for this year (Wallace) that isn't the greatest but he sure does make nice chicks so I put a few eggs from his girls in too. I had to get rid of some males to make room for this years chicks. I needed to open up a couple of my outer grow-out coops for the older chicks as I had been using them as breeding coops and pens but now that the breeding season is over for this year I had to consolidate to make room for the chicks so some of the males had to go. I kept 3 SC RIR males, 2 RC RIR males and 3 RC RIW males.

There are no Show Gold dealers within 100 miles of me. I have to find another source of quality feed for my birds.

All of my birds put themselves to bed in their respective coops every evening. All I have to do is close the doors...

My birds usually know what coop and pen they belong in but when I move them around they get a bit discombobulated so I don't let them out of their pens for a few days until they get more accustomed to where they are now. In the past when I have recently moved the birds and then let them out they want to go into their old pens and coops. I don't shut their pop doors at night so they can go out into their pens. My coops and pens are like Fort Knox so I don't worry about anything getting into the coops but they all go in at dusk and out at dawn on their own. All of the coops have night lights. I do shut the chicks in at night as a few like to linger until it gets dark and I hate to go out and get them in the dark so I make sure they are in and shut them in at night. I really don't have to worry about them but they are still young.

When I can't get the Show Gold I feed the birds Game Bird Breeder Pellets. During breeding season I mix the Game Bird with the Show Gold. Matt's father told me they do the same.
