The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Fred,
Here is one in the morning sun. I don't see green. I will get some better ones when the sun is really up.

He looks clean from here. Always focus in on the where his neck feathers, the hackles, meet his back, If he's clean there, he's likely good to go. Also, flip those tail feathers up sometimes and look on the under side of them Sometimes the tail feather hide red tints on the bottom of the feathers.

Cooped in this evening. Now it's time to hit the sack so I can get up nice an early. Took some White Leghorn cockerels to sell. I kept my best one. Still looking for a Brown Leghorn male as well as another White Leghorn male.

You're looking for Brown Leghorns too? Gosh, I've been trying to locate either chicks or a breeding pair/trio of Light Brown SC Leghorn (large fowl) too but I've been striking out. One fellow said he hoped to have chicks next spring so I asked if he could put me down for a couple but I haven't heard back from him. I also left a message with Cressey Highland Poultry in CA but haven't heard back from her either. I also love the Dark Brown Leghorns so I'm hunting for them as well. If you don't mind, let me know if you locate any and I'll let you know if I find any as well. I'm thinking maybe breeders are reluctant to say they'll have anything until they actually hatch and know what they have to work with. I'm wondering if Brown Leghorn breeders aren't all that common.

Closest sc light brown breeder i know of to you is jacob bates in Arkansas. Dont know about the west coast but there are a handful of good light brown breeders on the east coast.

I did well at the show. No champions but all got Best of Breed, Reserve Breed, Best Varity. I'm happy with that. With the molt on I didn't take my prior champs as they were looking rather shabby from their molts.
