The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I have never heard of them. Their website says, "All of our broodstock came from award winning exhibition quality flocks." I wonder what lines their birds originated from??? Just curious... Please let us know how they look when you get them and please post some pictures. Good luck and have fun...
I Contacted him and he said they are Mohawk and another strain that is good and lays a little better than Mohawk but are not quite as dark as the Mohawks still good just not quite as dark.

I'll ask a friend who is a master breeder. He should know. He started me with my birds which are the Reese aka Mohawk many years ago. I get a little scared when people mix lines. Often times if there are undesirable traits they can show up when you mix lines. I wonder what the other line is???

I don’t know but I should be able to work with them

I heard back from my friend. He is also the president of the Rhode Island Red Club of America so I thought he should know but he said he wasn't familiar with them. Just beware. Often times people will say they have Mohawk but that might not be true especially if they have crossed them with another line then they are not pure, true Mohawks. If you are not planning on showing them but just for eggs they are probably ok. Good luck and have fun...

If there are any poultry shows in your area, you may be able to get some there. Often times breeders will bring nice sale birds. That was how I got my start with the Reese/Mohawks. I bought some from a fellow. They were nice birds but then I saw some spectacular birds at a show and sought out the breeder and made arrangements to get a quad at a show.

Going through some old BYC posts I came across a post about Breese Farms. There seems to be two farms with the same name. One is ok but the other Breese farm was not recommended. Maybe you can research them some. Again good luck and have fun...

I got my chicks today most of them look dark red and some are super dark red and I know they will get a little darker so I’m loooking good there are only two that are miscolored where one is light and the other is lighter Columbian like a New Hampshire

Here are some chicks I hatched out last year. There are also some Rhode Island Whites and Dark Brown Leghorn chicks.
