The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

When it comes to weights on large fowl try to get your birds to weigh about one pound over standard weight. you will get better type this way and when you start choosing your birds for fast feathering and early developement you will end up with a better typed bird to lay eggs..

A standard can be purchased by many poultry supply houses and hatcheries. They got them laying around in a box to sell you. I think I saw some on Cackle hatcery site and Stormbergs. Dont worry about what year they are the words are the same as it was fourty years ago for Reds. I just remebered I have the words on my web site I wrote for two kids two years ago that had no money to buy one but wanted the words. I will look for it and post the site page for you.

Gary Underwoods Reds are kept at another ladys place. I dont know how she does with them at a show or not. They have Rose Comb and Single comb large fowl. Gary help her with the matings each year.

Any one going this weekend to the Ohio National. Should be a big show down with large fowl Reds. I wonder if Don Nelson will win with a pullet this year.?

In large fowl it should be between the Reds and the White Rock large fowl for Champion American. Jeff Halbach should bring some killer males this year.

Well got to go outside and feed these guys. bob

So now that I again seemed to have learned something from this thread is there anyone who sells HRIR in single and rose comb standard sized? I would love to find some good reputable breeders to completly redo my Egg farm with. I am trying to Make our farm like grannys farm and bring all the old original breeds back. Since you have opened my eyes it seems all my so called prize rhode island reds are just Production reds. although it saddens me to learn this. It also makes me happy to know there is yet another breed I can Find and learn to grow on.
I can settle for eggs, chicks, Young trio's Older trio's or even your kitchen sink if you would sell that. If anyone can pm me for contact info on some serious and reputable breed sources I would greatly Appreciate it.

This spring I will be selling all single comb birds I produce. If you are interested in chicks get back with me this spring. My birds are good, if you look at the photos posted you can see the rose comb, the single combs are all from the same lines.

Found a interesting web site on Rhode Island Reds and pictures of them. Sorry they are all dark in color none of the more common ones are pictured. There is a Rose Comb Female and my brain said it was one of the pictures that Jimmy took from Florida. He is the one who had the Rose Comb line a few years ago and had to get out because of zoning. If I am wrong these are the correct color of Rhode Island Reds and they all have good type.
Also, a great article on line breeding go up and down this site when you get a chance good reading. bob

OK, that's what I was thinking with the wiki in the link.
Ultimate Fowl has one heck of a good Wiki site made up.

Yes, correct..... the darker ones are the true RIRs. These are pretty much the correct colors, I believe. (at least on my monitor....)
