The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Thank you so much for all of your kind words. I am very excited about the Fogle RIRs. I have waited so long to show them. You know they go through the cute chick stage and then the ugly juvie stage LOL. I have more hens not in the video. They are with one of Ron's (FOGELLY) roosters. Recently hatch a bunch a chicks and have a bunch more eggs in Ron's Bator of Mass Production. This will be the year for hatching, evaluating and many shows. Wish me luck.

Wanted to share some pics of the Fogle Line (formally Ricky Bates line) Heritage RIRs. I had to put them in a smaller run and close the coop door so I did not have to run with the camera. They are camera shy LOL. I decided to take a two small videos. Thought it would give you all a better look. These are just a few I have but these are the ones I will be taking to the state fair. These are 12-13 months old and hatch by Ron Fogle. (FOGELLY).
Ron and I love this line of RIRs and it has been much fun raising them.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful birds on video. It made my day. Lovely.

Mumsy - You are so welcome.

Udovichtony - I know your going to love them. Ron has an amazing hatch rate and they are always fat, healthy and dark. They are truly my favorite breed.

I think my question got lost. I'm considering getting an incubator and eggs for 2014 spring. I was curious if there were any I would be able to pick up or at least close to me so the shipping would be less travel time and less chance of damage to the eggs.

With good packing, shipped priority, a state or two or three away isn't much of an issue. The risk of mis-handling is what it is, when the post office is involved.

I shipped a dozen from Northern Michigan down to southwest Virginia in January and 9 out of 12 developed and 8 out of 11 hatched. Not bad really. Not bad at all. With a good packer who knows what he doing? You could likely get them from anyone here who has them available and willing to ship. Just remember, there's no eliminating the complete risk.

Thanks. I plan to try incubating eggs from my hatchery RIR's first to make sure I can get the hang of it. From what I have been reading 8/12 is a good hatch for shipped eggs. Thanks again.

Hi Sally,
I can tell you that I am in SW Pa. and I've had eggs come in from California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, W, Virginia, Georgia, Virginia, Florida, Pa, and possibly other states in 2012. I have never had a box come with a cracked or broken egg. I have received 14 - 15 eggs and had 12 hatch. I've had 18 eggs come in and 2 hatch, the closest eggs I received from about 50 miles from my home and not one hatched. Go figure, what is it? I don't know. The last egg I received was in Nov. Got 18 eggs, 15 made it to lock down and 12 hatched and are still living. I will never fully understand this shipping thing. Is it the packaging? is it the USPS? is it the age of the eggs before shipping? there are a lot of variables to consider. Believe me, I've had a lot of experience with receiving shipped eggs. Sometimes a big smile and other times a big frown. It's not where you get them from, who you get them from etc. I incubate them all the same and I think it is whether the egg fairy rides with them or not. lol If you can't afford to loose the amount that you are paying for the eggs then PLEASE don't take the chance. It's a risk every time.
Jim
