Bob, here are current pictures of Hollywood. I think Hollywood is a he. He is an offspring of the birds I got from Matt.

Hollywood was killed last night. Something got into my chick coop even though I have electric around the pen and killed 14 of my chicks including Hollywood. I have an owl also that has killed 4 of the older chicks in another coop and pen the past few nights. I will be on guard tonight. Was going to put some traps out but it has been raining off and on all day. The minute I go out to do something it starts to rain again.

Wow! I am so very sorry for your loss!

Only things that would kill a big bunch of chickens at once, would be, a dog, a coyote, or something from the weasel/mink family.

I don't think any other critters kill a bunch for no reason. (Well, a fox will kill a bunch at once, but will drag them all off to burry for later).

Again, I am so sorry! I hate losing chickens! :(

I have enjoyed looking over this thread and looking at all the pics. These are a couple pics of some of my young birds. They were hatched Feb 8th. I would appreciate any critiques.

On NO! I am so very very sorry! Darn predators! I lost one of my maremma unexpectedly a month ago and it wasn't 48 before a hawk got into my coop and killed three production birds. My three week old maremma will be going into the chicken yard this coming week with their mom... Won't be soon enough! Am so sorry for your loss... I know you loved that special cockerel.

Sorry to hear about your predator issues and your losses. I have been having a hawk issue as of late and have lost a few of my barnyard chicks. I also have something prowling around the pens at night, not sure if it is fox or coon. The trap is set and baited (safely) with live quail. I had a snake get into my guinea pen and take five eggs right out from under my setting guinea hen a couple of days ago. This time of year always seems to be one thing after another when it comes to predators.

We have been having a horrible heat wave 100+ for several days already. Just to show how smart RIR can be.

Below is apparently the smartest chicken I own. We set up the misting systems over most of the chickens today, we'll finish up in the morning. Once I set up the system over the runs of the Poultry Palace, one RIR pullet jumped up onto a roost and stood directly under one of the mist heads. She was literally dripping wet. She stood with her eyes closed most of the time, but would occasionally lean over to drink a drip that had formed on the roost.

Smart girl!

misting stations, what a wonderful idea. A couple of weeks a go it was in the 90's here and I went out with a hose on mist and misted my birds. They were not really fond of it but maybe later this summer as it gets hotter they will appreciate my hose.
