The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Good picture of a young male. Look at the leg placement dead center nice long flat back. Extended keel a great trait in males which gives you a brick shape latter in ten months. Congratulation's nice looking flock and conditions. bob

WOW ! What a beautiful cockerel ! I have 3 Rose Comb Rhode Island Reds 1 roo (?) 2 hens (?) . 2 1/2 mo. old. I hope they turn out half this pretty. There are so many beautiful breeds of chickens ......but your just can't beat a REAL R.I.R. strutting around the barn yard. Thank goodness there are breeders who care enought to keep the breed pure and going. To member docdandc STOP IT ! Production Reds along side mashed potatoes ~~~ STOP !! I darn near fell out of my chair laughing.

My RC are just shy of 10 weeks old and I hadn't taken any pics in a several weeks, so I thought it was time.
Figured I'd share a few... I am not a photographer, so sorry for the quality...
I am so thrilled with these 20 babies... they are so easy to deal with and are growing like weeds...
I haven't really tried to get a ratio but think I have about half pullets and half cockerels.
And yes... I do have a few favorites, but haven't really gotten to the point of banding anyone yet... just those few that tend be the ones to always catch your eye each day when you walk in.

Thanks for the kind words and complements. I try and take very good care of all my birds. I have 10 of these cockerels so ill be thinning them down around the first of the year. I have 6 hens and am unsure wether to keep 2 or 3 of the males for breeding. Since I only have 6 hens I'll be using them all in my breeding. I'm unsure wether to keep 2 or 3 of these males. I read everything I can about these reds and have been trying to elevate my knowledge of what good stock should look like. Thanks again for the complement!!! Bryant

This is no big deal. Actually kind of nice. But I notice my Heritage Delawares starting to crow. They are months younger than my HRIR. My 2 cockerels look like the one above. But have never heard them crow yet. Just found it strange I never heard them crow yet for being so big.

None of mine are crowing either. I have a partridge rock cockerel in with them that takes on that duty. Don't know if that makes any difference or not.
