Pure Nelson Bob. Second generation from orginal pair from Don. This guy is from a brother/sister mating. His sire is the good "flat backed" male you have seen a photo of on my wall.

Post a picture of the sire if you have it. I knew that it must have been from good stock with skilled breeding. I think a bird like that with so many refined traits was not a fluke. Good idea to keep his breedings pure or you would spend years trying to get to this level again. How can I get ahold of the owner for chicks next season?

Hey Dan, in post 4370 it is said that this bird belongs to Ryan Carol. He is on RIRCA Facebook.
He is in my friends list so I'll contact him and see if he does own this bird. Ryan is from Calif.
Jim
I just sent message to Ryan so when I find out anything I'll let you know.
Thanks Jim!
Dan

His last name is spelled Carel/ JFYI
Mistake on my part Jeff. Yes, I know it is el not ol. lol He had sent me a friends request a few weeks ago so I just went to his face book page and sent him a message but he is/was on vacation in Colorado. Thank you for your post. I think I have a picture of the sire he sent me to my email address at home. Sometimes we correspond by personnel messages you loose them or forget.

It proves why the Nelson line is one of the top five lines in the USA. With hard line breeding and maybe making them just a little longer or brick shape you would have some top notch fowl they have I think a lot of the old Pennsylvania blood in them. Mr. Ward was the last to have Harold Tompkins blood lines before he dies. He was the last of the great breeders of Reds in that region. He got I think a lot of the reds from a old club secretary from the 1960s who died of cancer before Emmett Rachel's took over. These where pure Harold Tompkins line.

Still I hope you see the style of this ckl in Calif. I have heard he was small but small to what? Other Reds from the Mid West? If the standard calls for a 7 1/2 pound male at ten months of age and he looks like this how could you let him loose to a male that weighs two or three pounds more and does not have good type, or symmetry . That's what the mind set is sometimes. Its a shame and one reason I gave up my big reds years ago they where not big enough they said to win. Will let you know if Ryan hatched any chicks out of this guy. He might of crossed him onto some other reds and if so not really interested in the birds. If he still has this male and would sell him and you had pure Nelson line what a great breeder he would make. bob
