The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I thought it was his bird. I took it off a face book picture. I think he got the chick from Bob Gilbert. Never the less nice type and tail section. bob

I would like to know where it is now and what line it is from. I think he has great type, great tail, beetle green, dark feather with good luster and not stringy, level wing, dark beak, yellow legs, breast bone deep and in front of the vertical eyeball line a bit, legs dead center, and overall great balance. He also has one of the nicer combs as well. It would be interesting to hear what the upline parents look like. I wonder if he came from an "on purpose" breeding to get to this result or if he is just one of the lucky ones. I can tell you, I would like to have some carbon copies of this bird. I hope he breeds true to his type because he is great looking. It would be fun to have a top view picture of him too. His back is about 12-13 chicken wire holes long as far as I can see. Small spurs..... might not be very old yet.

Who has him?

Hey Dan, in post 4370 it is said that this bird belongs to Ryan Carol. He is on RIRCA Facebook.
He is in my friends list so I'll contact him and see if he does own this bird. Ryan is from Calif.
Jim
I just sent message to Ryan so when I find out anything I'll let you know.

I thought he had some from Bob Gilbert and I was shocked that this male looked like his birds which he told me where mixed in strains and he was giving them up after five years which goes with my theory of crossing strains to get a bird of this type and color. If you remember Bobby Andersons great male from last October he won with this male comes from that kind of mold.

I had sources tell me this bird is to small. He may only weigh 8 ponds not ten. If you get my drift.

Some judges want big big reds. This in my view is one of the best typed males I have seen in three years. Near perfect lift in back, correct length of back brick shape every where. He has classic Symmetry in my view.

I hope he hatched some chicks from him. He needs to be breed pure what ever he has and not mixed up with other stains because you will never see another male like this guy if you do. He needs to be mated back to his pure daughters of the Nelson line. Look forward to yur report. Now lurkers this is a real McCoy Rhode Island Red. Docile, and pure to the breed.

Was Lurking on the web and found these old pictures. These are a group of Bennett Ckls from I think two years ago from North Carolina. Did anyone have any luck this year with Bennett Line Reds ? I like this old line from Georgia.

Next I found a picture taken in the 1920 by Dr. Prince Woods at a museum in Mass. This was considered some of the original stock used from Whaling Ships in the 1850s to make up such a breed. We have come along way haven't we?

Really not intended in any way to be cruel or snarky, but I have the opposite problem with our old Kittle line birds, They don't want to get out from under foot. I've never had to chase one down either. Just bend over and pick one up. Never saw anything quite this friendly. Sometimes it is a pain. You about trip over them.

So what's the term for the opposite of human aggressive? LOL

Yes sometimes I ask mine would ya'll at least just act like chickens(chicken used to mean scared/to run) and move a little bit outta the way. They are a pest esp. when you've got a bucket full of water or feed trying to get to a destination, if its feed you can throw a little over elsewhere and they will go to it its hard to throw a handful of water and get the same results, LOL

Affection? LOL is that it?

He told me I think by email that he was going with a strain that is forty years old. Maybe Texas? He had trouble with faults pulling on him from the crosses. He would have had to stick with them three to five more years as its normally a ten to fifteen years to do it.

Maybe someone can solve this once and for all is this a Nelson bird and pure. Ryan I think came on here one time but left. He is on the face book page now and then. I don't go there much does not give me much information or passion.
