The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

thought so I think this was mentioned on the Layers thread some are all up and in arms on the FF movement

Yes Mitch the FF has been going on a along time we used to do it for the hogs they eat all they could hold, get drunk from it fall over and sleep and get fat off of it the chickens always enjoyed the spilled morsels they could get through the fence they didn't go in as the hogs always had room for fresh chicken in they stomachs it seemed. but I won't go through the trouble of FF for my numbers of chickens here I'd have to have the stuff mixed in 55 barrels as I could feed out a 5 gal bucket full of it in short few minutes here on the farm. I don't think the big timers practice it too much as its an inconvenience to mess with in huge portions. Time=dollars-profit

No biggie I was mostly going on with Matt I give him and Jim(bout forgot Chris too here) fits everso often they always come back for more too LOL

Hey whatever works for a person is the way they ought to go I say, if everbody did the same ol same ol it be like we was all a bunch of computer programmed robots. I'd prefer to make my own decisions and deal with the after effects (good or bad) on my own just the way I see it, right?

Jeff
Exactly, thanks Jeff. I’m not trying to preach to anyone. What anyone else eats or thinks or feeds is none of my business. I hope everyone feels this way I may want to make some purchases from some of you. I don’t make decisions until I’ve done my research and don’t think it was an easy for this ole country boy to give up grits and cornbread, but I personally feel that if Granddaddy was alive today he would too. I don’t mind ribbing at all. I don’t want to die of old age in a retirement home either, neither do I want my organs abnormally large, intestinal problems that are epidemic or to die a slow death of cancer way too young and if I can afford it I’ll feed my fowl the best I can too and I hope nobody assumes that I’m knocking them for their choices, I don’t even have my plan completely worked out yet. I’ve raised LF most of my forty eight years and steady for the last 16 to 17 years so I know about how much feed they go through and rising costs. I’ll try to learn all I can and make it affordable. I know there is a ton of science behind commercial feeds and if they make an organic non gmo feed I can afford I’d probably do that since its much easier.

I was just trying to make a funny...I like to make light of every situation. No harm meant.
As far as your links, we will just have to agree to disagree on that topic.

Jimmy, I didn't mean to scare you...I guess I should have told you my birds speak Spanish...

LOL well mine eat all that too with the exception of my own homegrown corn that I know doesn't have frog DNA(but I can only raise so much of that my largest % fed is all from the feed stores) in it because Grandaddy did'nt know of such shizum way back when. But they can all be converted to non GMO organics I'd reckon, there maybe hope to save a few of them from mutating into a toad, still yet, Matt.

hey Mitch there ya go Matt has some LF BRs. GSBR line he has raised for a few years from his own breeder choosings I got some from him and will vouch they are good BRs, GMO fed or no. LOL

Jeff

it will be hard to find many non GMO/organic breeders on here they barely make enough money off their sales to buy regular feed much, less organic. most would close up shop over that one I'm sure. These big"H type" chickens eat a lot, GMO or not.
I am a non-GMO/organic breeder. I believe I am in a small group. Most people don't want to/can't afford it or just don't see the benefit. I have about 250 large fowl chickens growing up right now plus around 60 heritage turkeys, all are being fed organic feed. It costs me more than I want to know and I'm retired, not much $$ coming in the door. But I just can't in good conscience support the GMO companies. I also think that there are good organic feeds and not so good ones, just like any regular feed. We eat our birds and eggs and sell both to people who want organic so that helps with the cost of feed and there are plenty of people in my area who believe as I do that the GMO foods and the tons of Round Up used on the crops are not good for us. It may take more time than the life span of a chicken for affects to show. I do not wish to be Monsanto's guinea pig.

X2. I keep a flock of under 50. I don't sell to the public. Eggs or meat, but my region supports the higher cost for poultry products raised soy and GMO free. I also am retired and have a hard time coming up with the needed extra $ to raise on good organic feeds, but the results are going in my mouth and Monsanto is not getting any of my limited funds. I'm no guinea pig either.
