The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I thought I had seen that males pic on Dicks web site I still don't recognize the pullet though maybe Jim got one outta two correct,

Fred is that one of yours or just an example you posted from someone else's stock.

Thats the stock I have (Horstman) I wished I'd got a male that looked like that one. My hens are Ok but I'd have to take the best of each of my boys to have a male like this one. I will get in on the Mohawk game someday I got other irons in the fire a little more important right now. I still like going out and looking at my Reds they are still are a great contrast to my (pro reds) for sure. Those"real" H type reds are some of the most docile chickens I ever had and not from spoiling them and handling them they are just laid back by nature.
Okay Jeff, The picture of that cock bird was posted in post 2610 of this forum by R & R Waterfowl I went on my face book page because Ryan and I are friends on there and this cock bird belonged to him. He is in Calif so I doubt if it was Horstman. For the hen, she was posted in post 2120 by Fred but just as an example. I will surely try to find who she belongs to before I go to bed. lol

I gotta ask, are you trying to help me out?

Chickens have always been relaxing to me. I go out and sit with them after work and when I’m not busy and watch them and feed them treats. I had some really good bloodlines in my dogs in the 90’s. People from around the globe inquired about them. I wasn’t in it for the money and didn’t make much money but enjoyed having some of the best. I didn’t show them, they weren’t show dogs, but I would go to some of the ‘local’ shows. There was always a group of guys that would gather in the same place every year and knew everything and a bunch of ‘he said, she said and accusations etc. and that’s ONE reason I got out of it. HRIR are neat, but I doubt anybody’s breaking the bank on these birds. I hope I’m wrong, but I got to tell ya I’m getting the impression that I’m being checked up on. I have no reason to try to mislead anybody I’ll give you the lady’s phone number if you want it and you can ask her about the pictures, is that fair?

Oh my gosh. lol Sorry for giving you that impression. I'm just like this. Someone ask about the birds and I was trying my best to get the information back to them. Gosh, I really don't care who's birds they were or are. I just went to the gallery and found the pictures and then went back through the post and found it. For all I know, Ryan could have posted someone else's picture. lol I love looking up stuff on these birds and spend hours upon hours on my computer daily. I won't say anymore about it because I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression of me. lol
What you said with the dogs, when I showed horses for 30+ years I could tell you all about the running horses pedigree etc. I did show and it was every weekend. 4 different states and so much traveling.
Anyway, these are special birds and any of us that have them now and later will have a lot of work to do keep them up to what they are to be. Jump in get your feet wet and enjoy yourself with whatever ones you decide to get. Each line has their own good and bad points and you just have to work on whatever it is that you are wanting.
Jim
Don't you ever think that I'm checking up on you or upset with anything that anyone on here says. I just as someone said in an earlier post, take it with a grain of salt. I will be one of the first in line to say I'm sorry, smile and give a hand shake. ENJOY

Jim is the RIR police! Lol!!!

By the way Jim.....do you have any other breeds now other than your Reds? I'm seriously considering cutting back on some different breeds I have and concentrating on my Reds. I think that I might dump my NH's and my BR's and a bunch of these bantams I have.

Chris

Are these Bennet reds(pine grove) either way I like them they look to be good examples of "real" RIRs nice tail black on the pullet pics a little blurry in the facial area but all looks fine, the cockerel looks ok from the angle of the pic (hard to get a full true reading on photos) chickens "ain't" good posers and not cooperative at all in picture taking, LOL

The Bantam reds posted previously. Yes, they are considered the be "H" breeds right along side the LF versions esp. on this thread, the thread starter is a Bantam Red master breeder I will let him comment on them though as I'm not up to par on the little guys too much yet I still got a long way to go on the regular ones first, LOL

Mitch, William Bennet (pine grove) on here is in you neck of the woods and has awesome reds just another source close to you going to get a picture I saw last night of some awesome goodness almost freakishly clone like

I'm going to find the peas in a pod picture on here.

Jeff and Bob I spoke with Mr. Bennett this evening and he sold all his birds a few months back. His reds and old English bantams,he is out of chickens.

Well that ends that still plenty of good birds out there to order next year so don't loose any sleep over this. get some and play with them and you can always go with another line this spring. Jimmy has many strains and studies them and he will one day decide what he will end up keeping. It depends on what you goals are. If you don't plan to show them it don't make much difference in my view. If you do you better get the best you can find or you will get your butt kicked when you go to certain shows.

I don’t know if or when I would show, but I want the best of whatever I get because I might just decide I have the desire to show and have the time to show ONE day. I guess I’m a lot like Jim, I tend toward obsession sometimes. Mail order isn’t my first choice and I’ve talked to a few people around here who will have birds available. Right now that obsession is kicking in and I’m fighting the urge to get something to play around with until I find what I want. I guess I need to go ‘play around’ with my own chickens, lol.
