Thanks for all the nice comments on the cockerel everyone. Chris I don't think I will be culling that bird because of the tail....I read all those comments on your post on facebook and I think what really matters is if the bird is BALANCED.....

He is a nice male I hope I didn't sound as if I was saying his tail was too long but I was more directing towards breeding down is easier the breeding up is all. not my intent anyway LOL No I wouldn't cull him here either matter of fact I'd too take him off your hands now and you can move on the bigger and better things Steven LOL

My RIRs ( Ron Fogle, birds) are now 5 mos. old, and I think their molt is over. They are not the easiest to photograph and capture their magnificent, deep colors. Contrary to their reputation of being not so gentle, I find them to be very calm, sweet birds who gets along with everyone. They have always been one of my very favorite breed.

I did have a beautiful quad; but, unfortunately, 4 wks. ago, a Bobcat killed my lovely pullet, and my beloved Jubilee Orp. head rooster. He died fighting to save his flock. It was a horrific experience which I shall never forget, and I miss both my birds very much.

Now I have a trio which I love very much, and appreciate their beauty, and wonderful temperament.

You have a great start here from a excellent strain. They are from Arkansas they may have some efforts adjusting to your climate but you have to understand this is normal.. After 3 generations they should be adjusted to California climate then think about this to five years from now.
u could send ron five or ten started chicks from you strain back to him and he can have a new shot of fresh blood for vigor if he wanted it for his line. He has the only original Ricky Bates line which he got from his son. Thanks for the pictures keep up the good work. bob

Had a good night watching football Alabama won and LSU taking it easy today. Just looking at little tiny R I Red males that look like Robins.

What am I going to do with these guys. I think tomorrow I will clean out their pen put six inches of nice new wheat straw in them and put five or six of them in the pen to see if they get along. Do the same with the pullets. If they fight I will take the fighters and put them in a 4x4 conditioning pen and get them ready for the big Show In Baton Rouge this November. Got to get my entry ready and send to Chris.

Cant chew gum and type at the same time. Have a nice evening. bob
