Went to a show today and a RIR hen won best of American breed. We did not stay around long enough to see all of the different breed winners but this hen was very nice looking with only a hint of the lacing.

Is it usual for RIR's to look very upright and almost gamey while they are still growing. Ian a little bit worried about my new cockerel. I have just bought a quad from a breeder near by who has very good RIRs. I am very happy with them so far though, I find the breed very inquisitive and cheeky, they come up and nip at your fingers and run up to me already even though I only have them a week. I plan next year on getting another cockerel from a different line and a couple more hens. I am going to keep records of their laying, and the weight of carcasses after they have been cleaned out. I am also thinking about showing some birds if I get some really good ones.

I like showing my birds and have met so many wonderful people too. I think it is fun to show just to see how my birds stack up to others at the shows.
