The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I have 5 from my Reese line that were hatched out by a broody. They are around 2 months old. 3 are males and 2 females. I will try to get pictures of them today. They look good. My last original male was recently killed by a predator he was a little over 3 yrs old. I have 3 of the sons. The sons aren't as good looking as the old men were. My other original male died a few months ago from a stroke. I kept 2 males from him as he was a male from Matt and a very nice looking male. Hopefully I can get another male this fall. My other chicks are 4 weeks, 3 weeks and 2 weeks old. Many are already looking promising, but I'll let them grow out and keep the best. My 2 week old are Rose Comb. Those chicks hatched out a bit lighter in color than my Reese chicks.

These are some of my RIR's I got last year from Matt 1616. Not great pictures but really pretty birds. I hatch some eggs will get pictures of the chicks soon

I'm ordering some stock and would like to know the quality of the birds. I'd appreciate any help! They seem nice to me, but as a newbie I'm not sure if the tails are supposed to form a straight line with the back or have a slight angle.

Tail angle looks good. Fairly straight is good for a pullet.

You should buy these.

Tail angle is 20% but that is when they are full grown. Fairly straight is good for a pullet.

That would be about the angle of the last hen? And would the angle for cockerels be the same?
And I'm glad you say that, because they are ordered and on the way. Lol. I found them for a good deal. They are Reese/Mohawk.

What is the amount of broodiness originally bred for? These hardly ever go broody, and I was wondering if this was fitting with their original function.

When looking at pullets, can you expect a slightly down turned tail to straighten out or even reach the standard, or can you pretty much rule out the pullet having correct tail set once she is full grown?
