The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I wondered where you've been Jimmy. When Bob passed the list got quiet.
Great to hear from you.

I thought Bob Blosl created the Mohawk line from the Reese birds. I have been under the assumption that the Reese birds are the same as Mohawk. My birds came from Matt1616 too. I call them Reese/Mohawk. My first Reese birds I purchased, I was told were the from the Reese line, at the Florida Sunshine Classic show in Lake City, FL several years ago. They were very beautiful birds very dark mahogany color. They had good shapes. A fellow came over to where I was set up and asked me if they were the Reese line. I told him I was told they were from the people I bought them from. I don't recall the names of the people I bought them from originally and this was several years ago. About 3 years ago I bought some birds from Matt. I did keep the birds separated from the other birds that I was told were Reese birds that I had originally purchased. All of my birds now are descendants from the birds I got from Matt. They lay very well, except now while they are molting. Now I'm confused about the Reese and Mokawk after going to your website Jimmy.

I'm an old lady so it's not hard to confuse me but I love all of my birds.

Just got home from church and read the post after I posted. First I want to say thanks for the nice comment about my birds.

Red Ridge, last month was pretty rough on me. It is a year since Bob's passing and just 10 days before my birthday. As most of you folks have seen on my site that he and I were sending PM's back and forth at that time and I ws waiting for an answer to the PM that I had sent him and not to long after I got the call telling me that he had passed. Geez, that is the worst shock that I've ever had.

Thanks for the ovation Sally.

CMOM, I can understand you getting a little confused with the Reese/Mohawk. lol Bob had sent me some personal information about how he got started with the Mohawk then some say there is no such thing but I don't pay to much attention to others. lol My Reese birds came from Matt also. I did have a few from Greg Chamness also but they were not the birds that I got from Matt. Like you, my Reese birds from Matt have been kept pure and always will.

As for getting new blood, This is my thoughts on this. If you keep a couple families and keep them separate, after a few generations you can use the different families as new blood. I literally love these Reese birds I planning on only raising these from now on. Getting a little to long in the tooth to keep all these lines going. Not bad in the summer but our winters are not fun anymore for me. lol After last years fall down the cement steps with a 5 gallon bucket of hot water it left me know that I'm not 20 anymore. ha,ha.

I'm not on my computer as much as I used to be but will try to post some pictures soon.
Thanks again
Jimmy

Where can we get any new blood? Looks like all our birds came from Matts house lol
I am hoping to get a cockerel from Matt at the Lake City, FL. show. I saw some nice looking birds at the Lake City show every year that I go there. Matt told me that they are the Reese line. I think he told me the fellows name is Phillip?

Good advice. I keep only one line for that reason. Wish all my girls weren't laying so heavy right now, I'd take them to the Iowa and Knoxville shows. Course there probably won't be any other RC in Knoxville. I don't know of any others in the south east. What a shame. We need more breeders in Reds.

The last show I went to I entered one of my pullets. She was the only RC RIR there.

Matt,
I have a question for you. My boy that took Champion American had cut his comb a few days prior to the show. When I bathed him for the show I tried to clean the dried blood off but is wasn't coming off and had scabbed over. Now it is healed and the scab has fallen off but his comb looks more separated between the middle 2 points where it was cut. How much does the comb count in the shows?

Alieda

P.S. I was considering taking him to Lake City but he is going into one of my breeding pens.
