The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Maybe I will get to meet The Matt Ulrich !!

Since you have Reese/Mohawk Reds, you should meet Matt. He should be at the Rhode Island Red Club table. He is a very good person and knows his birds well. My cockerel and pullet that recently won Champion American at the Inverness, Florida show are from chicks hatched from birds I got from Matt.

Note to Matt:
I hope you are bringing me a cockerel to the Lake City show. I know I can be a pain but my girls need a new boy...

It is only a few days away from the APA Nationals in Knoxville, TN.  This will also be a District Meet for the Rhode Island Red Club.  We will be setting up a table for the weekend so I hope to see and meet some of you guys there.

Matt

Wish I could be there!

Good luck Matt!

Matt I'm going to put a couple pix of my RIR's on here and was wondering if you could tell me how they look. I was TRYING to get a pic of the cockerel when he was standing with his head up and about the time I went to snap the pic he went down with his head.

Matt I have 3 of the cockerels. They are from the Mohawk line. I got them from Jon on our Facebook page that we're members of. They are around 5 months old. This is my first ones of these. This pic below is 2 of the cockerels. You can't really tell about the legs of the one by the PVC pipe but the other one to the left, are the legs where they should be for SOP? I haven't really looked at their combs since they've gotten older. Wondering how long one keeps them to see how they will turn out?

Then here's another one of the cockerels in the middle of the pic.

Thanks to sgribble for the idea for inexpensive poultry show carriers.
$1 each and a hole saw... QED

To carry in a covered situation, those are just about ideal. Less fussy than dumpster diving and taping up cardboard boxes, and you can re-use.

Since mine are coming to Knoxville in an uncovered utility trailer, I had to build some boxes more substantial. Same hole saw idea, but need to cover mine, as there appears to be many hours of driving in rain predicted.

Mine will not be covered... back of a truck. Hopefully that will be adequate.
Mostly I worry about them getting hot.

I use a utility trailer sometimes. Most of the time I use our truck which has a cover. When it's warm or hot out and I use the trailer I cover the cages with sheets and if it is in the forecast for rain I put a tarp over the cages. So far no problems I usually carry both so I am always prepared. I have very long bungees I put over the trailer and the leading edge I bungee down to help keep the wind from getting under it but some air does which is good for the birds to have air pass over them. I'm sure I'm not traveling as far as you are. Good luck everyone...
