All I can say on this subject is hound dogs. Blueticks, Redbones, Black and Tans. They keep everything away.

Several years ago one of our daughters moved to a place where she couldn't have pets so we inherited her Walker Hound. She was an older dog and had the run of our property. She never bothered our birds and never saw a predator either when she was alive. We went on a vacation and a friend was taking care of the chickens and Daisy dog. Our friend called us shortly after we left and said Daisy was acting strange and wasn't eating. We have a vet friend and she came out to look at her and said she was shutting down. She died while we were gone and our friend buried her.

Don't want to hijack the thread with dogs, but sorry to hear that. Walkers are awesome dogs. My 2.

Funny thing about both dogs is really neither one is mine. Sort of. The black and tan was the peoples dog that use to live here. When I bought this place they moved 7 miles away. The dog kept finding his way back here. Like 4 times. Finally they said do you just want to keep him. I said heck yea. The bluetick when I moved in came up and never left. Was the neighbors across the street. They moved and just left him behind. The poor dog i guess has been hit 3 times and shot once. So I just take care of both of them. They are very good dogs.

When my DH was working out in the garage Daisy liked to go out there with him so I put down some old foam mattress pads for her to lay on when she was out there. I had a blanket spread out over it but it didn't stay spread out. She would go out and paw at the blanket before she would lay down on it, but she was a pretty old gal.

Daughter with Daisy. This picture is about 10 years old and Daisy was about 10 plus yrs old in this picture.
