I think you will find that birds from hatcheries such as Ideal are not bred to the APA Standard of Perfection and so should not be considered heritage. Even if you get a good male from a show line, breeding it to inferior females will not produce superior birds. Perhaps others on this thread can state this a little bit more eloquently. Start at the beginning of this thread and read what it takes to produce good Rhode Island Reds. You just won't find them from a hatchery/feed store.

I did do some research onRhode Island and i also grew up wirh this breed from purebred on farms and i am old enough to see the different in the breed of yesterday and the breed of today and also did rescearch on ideal they are not a commercial hatchery it is a family farm that believe in purebreds and have been breeding heritage frowl since 1938.

Post some pictures as they grow and if they meet the standard people will be more willing to sell you a roo. I've got some id sell you if your pullets are nice

Thank you i will post some pictures when these chicks are older as i told the very same thing to my husband Ideal allowed me to come to the farm hatchery and look at the low ,med, and HIGH quality fowl and they keep each one in different located space quarters and also allowed me to handpick my chicks even in the High quality area oh my hubby would not pick a roo from the same high quality batch as he does not believe in too close imbreeding the line so im the one showing the roo even if hens never get to show and i love the Red fowl so much that i wouldn't want him to be lonely so he can be with my hubbies hen Lol quotes by LOUD HEN HEHEHE!
