The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Recent pictures of a few of my chickens. Not the best lighting and a very amateur photographer.

The rooster was a backup breeder. The hens were in the breeding pen but I'm done setting RIR eggs for a while as my children decided on day to let them out with all of my free ranging table mixed breed roosters. The eggs they are sitting on will be some very colorful barnyard mutts.

My memory is not at its best right now but I think I already said yours did not look like mine which are descendents of the Fogle line. And for some reason I just can't remember where the Fogle line came from at the moment but it is a great US line.
I have been researching for over a year now and reading everything I can get my hands on about the standard RIR. According to what I have read the Fogel line came from the Bates line(Ricky Bates) who got his birds from a family in Lousiana named St Romains. After Ricky passed his son continued the flock and Ron Fogel got his birds from him. Ive read that the line is over 90 years old. I was interested in this line as I have property that I am developing in Northern Arkansas and Ron is close to me. Deciding on which line is so difficult but luckily I still have time to decide. Right now Im thinking of having 2 lines (keeping them separate of course) and seeing over time which line works best for me. -Rod

To me it sounds like you are looking for a line name that fits your bird's description.  I'm almost sure if you post updated pictures some of the long term breeders could help you.  My memory is not at its best right now but I think I already said yours did not look like mine which are descendents of the Fogle line.  And for some reason I just can't remember where the Fogle line came from at the moment but it is a great US line.

I guess I could see an person in England wanting RIR and getting them from the US then a few human generations down that persons grandchild falls in love with a US person and moves to the US.  There is a chance that they would bring their now English birds over.  But the odds are so slim.

Don't worry about it at all. And for wearing glasses, I know exactly what you mean. I can't take the heat at all and when I'm trying to work on pens in the summer time I sweat sooooo bad and the drops of sweat keep falling inside my glasses I just about go nuts. I really don't like breaking ice in the winter but, oh my, when it goes over mid-high 70's here and the humidity is high I just can't stand it.LOL I guess we just can't please everyone all of the time. lol

You are correct radams in your history of Ron's birds. The next question is do you know who the St. Romains got their birds from??? A little bit of RIR history trivia...
