The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Wow RIR genealogy where else could you get this great info from. I'd bet this breed is the most kept up with on the lines and strains than any others out there or right amongst the top of the heap on this sorta info. whatchall say I love it. Glad to have such brainiacs to keep up with it all and most are just a holler away if you think they don't know just post up some misinformation and it will be corrected shortly for sure, LOL

Its all in the know. When I first started mechanic work at a young age (early teens) my Grandaddy pounded it in my head to LEARN the nomenclature of what your working on first then go from there.(sure makes the job easier) Well this knowing where all the lines/strains came from is just the same as nomenclature.

g'day

Jeff

True. I was reading trough, took me back 25 years when I bred dogs. I knew their pedigrees a hundred times over better than my own family.

These are out of Dick Horstman's, a lady up the road has them. I should say hers came from this line. I think she said she borrowed these pics, because she didn't have good pics of hers to share.

I thought I had seen that males pic on Dicks web site I still don't recognize the pullet though maybe Jim got one outta two correct,

Fred is that one of yours or just an example you posted from someone else's stock.

Thats the stock I have (Horstman) I wished I'd got a male that looked like that one. My hens are Ok but I'd have to take the best of each of my boys to have a male like this one. I will get in on the Mohawk game someday I got other irons in the fire a little more important right now. I still like going out and looking at my Reds they are still are a great contrast to my (pro reds) for sure. Those"real" H type reds are some of the most docile chickens I ever had and not from spoiling them and handling them they are just laid back by nature.

I may be kinda fuzzy right now, tired. I’m Mitch, I posted those pictures. I talked to a lady today that has RIR. She said she got them from Ohio and they were Dick Horstman. She said she borrowed a picture because hers were growing out or molting, didn’t really catch that over the phone, but didn’t have good pictures of hers. She’s thinking about getting out of the RIR and breeding rare exotic breeds. Not sure about ‘Fred’ or ‘correcting misinformation’, I kinda had a hard time following some of the posts. Hope that clears it up a little, I’m still kinda confused, lol

Good morning Jeff,
I went back through and the Cock bird posted that you asked if it was Bennett, I went back through and found it and that picture was posted by Rosecomb-Ryan 12-26-2012 I didn't find the hen yet Found the pullet and it was posted by Fred Fred's hens Don't know if it was his bird or just showing the picture. lol

Yeah Mitch I was refering to what Jim posted in my query to find out who's pics they were you had posted. Sorry like I said I can easily confuzzle a person especially ME. LOL

Jeff

Great idea Sally. Everyone should post where their birds came from. Good documentation that way.
Mine came from Gary Underwood.
