Hey Jeff,
Wanted to fill you in on all the varmints that I caught. First it was the skunk, lol, then two groundhogs, then a coon and lastly an opossum. Gee, I could have had a wild game feast and invited all my BYC friends. ha,ha,ha.
Monday I had 8 - 10 turkey buzzards swarming around looking for the dead varmints. Oh my, those things are soooo big and UGLY.
I still have the trap set but nothing for the last 3 days.
My birds are really enjoying the weather for the last few days, Down in the 40's at night and high 60's to low 70's in the day. My birds from Matt probably think they are in Alaska. lol

He is dark, got good brick shape, good head points, does not like being in that pen and is sulking. I am sure if he was on the ground walking naturally he would be flat as a pancake with his upper brick shape or top line flat. If he came from the two males I think he came from he should be. So don't beat him up because his back is dropping down. Thanks for the picture. Hope to see him at the Baton Rouge show.. bob

Yes Bob he will be there in BR. I have a few that I grew out this year and he has the best brick shape to him. I entered two Cockerels and two Pullets in both RIR and White Rock bantams among a bunch of other birds for the Nov show. We are getting close.... Just a few more weeks!!!

Thats a good thing there I just blasted a big ol bore coon out of an oak tree at 3:30AM this morning. I'm sure the neighbors appreciated me getting rid of the pestilent critter for them even it sounded as WW3 in the wee hours this morning.

Hey what are neighbors for to help one another out right.

LOL

If it'd not been so early in the morning I would have skint that coon out and put him on the spit and had BarBQued coon sammishs. He's a fat one, as he has had his fill of my corn crop for about 3 or 4 months now. Now I just got to get the rest of the family that he has sired and showed where the groceries are. I figure if I don't they are going to start eating chicken as I have gathered all the corn and things will be getting slim and cold weather is coming soon. Maybe they will move back to the creek now that the corn has been harvested. I hope

Nice little red boy Chris.

I think I got a couple of young RIR cockerels I raised up this year out of my Reds that may just be better than what I started with.(esp in the male area) This Red breeding is just a little different than what I'm used to but I will get the hang of it sooner or later.

Want to get into single comb RIR.... FROM A BREEDER and NOT a hatchery.. Already went that route and got from others but found the parents originated from either people who told them they were RIR or were descendants of feed store chicks. I am sure they are productions. The rooster looks nice and one hen is darker than the other and blockier.

Anyone able to help this beginner? I want things as natural as possible so I have an Open Air Woods coop in progress and I free range during day. Lock up in coop at night. I plan to let broody hens do the incubating/hatching/raising.

I don't have an incubator so was planning on doing hens first for eggs and then a rooster for breeding purposes.

Bob, My nephew and grandniece want more of the RIRs from RI so we will be taking a trip back up there and bringing them along.

My husband and I were on vacation and since my nephew wanted a RIR rooster and we like them too we went to visit and just take some pictures. I asked if they ever have any available (to keep in mind for my nephew) and was told to go get a box and pick one of the ones they had available. So we picked one out, made a donation, and brought the rooster home and gave him to my nephew and his daughter. Unfortunately I did not get the strain but it is from the program from the university there. I will take notes when we go back up. The donating breeders were mentioned on a sign but I did not write the names down. There were two. I think one was Underwood or something like that? The other could of been Nelson. The guy in charge said 'Gee most people just bring home a tee shirt from vacation.' He may actually have changed my niece's direction as far as chickens are concerned with the one act of kindness. She has been raising chickens for a couple of years and can tell you more information then any child should know. Reads about them all the time. And this rooster is a big deal for her. She posted him on facebook...loves that bird.
