I use whole wheat usually white but have used red, whole oats, and they cracked corn or whole corn. It takes them a while to get used to eating oats but if you start in spring and do not put hardly any corn in they learn quickly to eat it first.

My flock LOVES the steal cut oats. Even more when its cold like this and I cook it first. Feed it to them warm and they don't leave a speck of it lol. As for corn I thought that was mainly a winter food because it was a hot feed?

You might look into making your own scratch. I like to feed oats and wheat because it helps feathering and if you put corn in that is even better.
Fall, Spring Summer mix - using 3 pound coffee cans I mix 1 each of wheat and oats and half of cracked corn.
Winter mix 1 each of wheat and oats and 1/2-3/4 of whole corn.

There is very little waist as compared to a lot of the commercial mixes.

I do the same thing except I also add black oil sunflower seeds.

Caution. .. oats and wheat musty be used in moderation in poultry rations. Make sure you understand how to balance a ration and supply the proper amount of animal protein in the balance.

I will check into it. I make the oats the same way my grandmom did. She put the rendered fat from whatever animal was on the table into the oats. (no salt added) She also used to make them seed balls from it.

When I had my 1200 pair of breeding parakeets I used to make up and cook 4 cups rice, I cup carrots, 1 cup oats 1 cup wheat, 1 cup black sun flower, 1 cup of cracked corn. Served all the extra to the birds and they loved it. Warm food in this cold is always good for them.

I was thinking of soaking the feed in hot water for about 30 minutes then feeding it to them. I was not sure of having the additional moisture in the coop though. Right now the only birds leaving my coop are the ducks and they only stayed out about 90 minutes today. The run has some grass in it without snow but not much.
